I know shoulder/elbow issues have been discussed. Has anyone switched from right handed to left handed or vice versa to reduce wear on bad side? Thinking about giving it a try.

I have rotated between R&L casting when my shoulders and rotator cuffs show zactly how old I am. I have and carry both RH and LH crank reels in case I get to hurtin too much. Time spent fishing does not count against you when you are called up!!

Try one of your spinning rods. It's a different grip and easier on my elbow.

A few years back my right shoulder was giving me problems so I switched to casting with my left arm. I bought two reels to accommodate and fished the rest of our tournaments. By the following spring I was able to use my right arm again so I sold the reels on ebay.

After 40 years of fishing with my 5000s and having one rotator cuff surgery I switched to light weight graphite rods and low profile super light reels.
It hs helped a bunch. Shoulder pain is no picnic.

I have carpel tunnel issues in both wrists and hands so I have both left and right hand bait cast reels, each for different applications, so I can switch hands when ever I need to. Can also do it with the spinning reels although I use those more in saltwater fishing. Just takes a small amount of practice. The advise above about a weight lifting program will also help.

It hs helped a bunch. Shoulder pain is no picnic. This! Lighter weight equipment is less stress. You can feel the difference.

I switched about 5-6 years ago and have never looked back
Like Pete says I am having issues with my other elbow now but it is from prior damage done and fishing is just pissing it off

I had shoulder surgery to repair rotator and upper bicep damage - I fished left handed while it healed and then went back to right handed. I could always crank with my right hand so I never went to left handed reels .

I have right side elbow and forearm pain sometimes, and I switch my spinning gear from left hand to right hand reeling. Feels odd but helps out.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.
