Did a little fishing this week in the kayak at Cedar Creek Lake and Lake Jacksonville. Had a little luck fishing ccl with 1 LMB at about 3 pounds and a couple crappie. Lake Jacksonville was better though, 1 LMB at 3 pounds and 7 crappie. I know it is not a large haul, but I am learning to use artificial baits and it is taking me awhile to get use to the presentations and colors. The crappie were all caught on black and blue curly tail jigs and the bass were caught on deep diver crank baits. All fish were still pretty deep around 8-10 feet, the bass seemed to be the deepest around 15 feet. I am looking to hit Purtis creek this weekend or maybe Kings creek that feeds CCL. Randy

Love to hear of kayak fishing trips... Thanks for the report... I have a well rigged fishing kayak that I am wanting to take out, but my brother has a bass boat and I go with him... Guess I am going to have to slip off with out him knowing...
Kayaks are great fishing platforms... Easy to slip up on shallow fish... You sit low on the water, and you seem to become part of the enviroment... Just an awsome feeling thats hard to explain... Catch a bigger fish and go for a sleigh ride... Very different from sitting in a boat and just reeling him in...

You are right Lokey, there is no cooler thing than getting dragged around by a powerful fish. I hooked into a 5 pound catfish last summer and it took me all over the place for a ride. You are also right about being a part of the environment, it is really peaceful on those yaks. Good hearing from you Pal, tell your buddy that I fish out of a red Hobie. I put in all over the lake and have yet to see another kayaker out there, I hear that there is others from the marina owners but have yet to cross paths with one. I am going to the creeks this weekend and hopefully I will have a better report on Monday!! Randy

Cedar Creek, I'll probably see you out there, I have a tan Hobie Mirage. I usually fish the North West side of the lake because that's where I live but would love to launch at Don's Port and fish that area. I haven't had a chance to fish but twice this year but it's time to get after it.

Good report CCL. I enjoy making the trip up HWY 31 to your neck of the woods. I'm not much of a fan of big water but Purtis Creek is my favorite and also plan on spending some days real soon on the west side of Lake Athens. I'll post a report here next time I go.

Hey Gator, good hearing from you again. I may have floated by your place on Monday. I put in at Causeway and worked my way north up into the first cove and then around the point, and back to the bridges around Finley park area. I normally fish the north side but I am trying to break the habit and try new areas like Dons Port and Log Cabin. We ought to get together some time and hit the water. I will be in Kings Creek this weekend hunting around with the yak to see how it is now. Slo-cal, I too am going to hit Purtis Creek a number of times this year. We like to camp out there and the Kayak will make it a lot more fun. I have not ever been to Athens lake, is it pretty good fishing there? I see you from Hewitt. I work in waco at L-3 Communications, formerly Raytheon. Look forward to your fishing reports. Randy

Haven't had a chance to get out because my granddaugher had pneumonia and then my grandson got it and still has. He's getting better and should be home by thursday so maybe I'll get out this next weekend.
