I was talking to a guy I met about fishing and he said he used to work with some guys who used soap as bait. I thought this was outrageous but apparently it works. What are your thoughts on this or if you've ever used this approach to fishing what was the outcome?? I'm really curious about it

Thanks and Gig'em!

Zote soap, good on trotlines. Can find at dollar store or any mexican market.

Used to work offshore with some serious catfishermen. They used zote soap all the time and no, it is not dynamite.

Probably because it's main ingredients are coconut oil and tallow.

The guy on River Monsters uses soap for some of the fish he's after.

Soap is one of the best catfish baits. I was raised using Ivory soap. Use straight hooks on a trotline/ jugline or fish it over the side of a boat. Don't try to cast it unless you like feeding the fish! I just cut it up in "sugar cube" sized chunks. I like Ivory because it floats and catches fish!

Many brands of soap (especially most basic) have a base ingredient that is really....pork fat.

I seen an episode of River Monsters of an African tribe using soap on trotlines.
