Went fishing last Sunday and did good catching a DD and several other goodins ....and also caught a fish that was about 6 inches long....threw it in the liveeell and had the gameeardrns look at it and they were clueless!! So I went and visited the tpwd in San Angelo for answers... the fish was known as a gulf killifish and is not only a lake record but a state record!! Caught a wall hanger minnow!! Hahahaha. Sorry for the long read but it cracks me up

So is this a native fish or an invasive species?

Native to Texas. Eats mosquito larvae ...they said they are most abundant in the Pecos and Rio Grande river...

Mud Minnow! Flounder Bait! They are also found along the coast in brackish water. We catch them in minnow traps baited with halved Blue Crabs. Reds, Trout, and especialy Flounder love em'!

It might not be the same breed, but there is one Killifish that is borderline extinct. I wonder if you caught that breed. They will not breed in captivity.

Yep. The 3:16 Mission Fish in Gulf Killifish is pretty well known as a swimbait of choice on Amistad. Ivie? I've thrown it there but very seldom. Interested to hear how the angler caught a 6 inch fish when fishing for and catching DD's! grin

FYI gulf killifish are native to COASTAL waters, but not up into the rivers very far. Those in the pecos are invasive, as they are anywhere else if the river is separated from the gulf by a dam.
