So we have usually been trying Kirby and Phantom to no avail so we decided to head down to Lake Brownwood to 1) clean up our land area a bit and 2) see if there was any water near the area (we're near where the river meets the lake on the northern part). We ended up finding two places to fish from. The first got us a just legal catfish on the sole shad we caught with our throw net and then after that we landed 2 drum and a gar, all on worms. The next spot we found was on the river and within the first minute of having a pole in we pulled in our second smallest fish. We tried fishing with some cut up drum but nothing, meanwhile a few feet away on another pole the cats were tearing up the worms... we were kicking ourselves for not bringing any stinkbait, shrimp or shad from Kirby, though we were able to bring in the second biggest cat with a large grasshopper we found in the area. We also snagged a turtle on one pole and got in a carp that was almost 3 feet long, though with one stringer and a long hike back we didn't care to bring it with us. We're hoping the water stays the same for about 2 weeks so we can make a trip back up there for at least 2 days, since we really didn't plan on fishing on this trip since we didn't know what we'd find in terms of water. The biggest on the bottom was near 19" and the top one was just at 12".

I fished Kirby from 7:30 to 8:30 in the cove with the fishing pier and caught four channel cats in shallow water. I lost one because I bent the barb on my hook down due to fishing catch and release. They were jumping constantly there, chasing the shad around. I used corn on a size 6 Aberdeen light wire hook under a bobber and split shot. I was hoping to hook a bluegill to use as cut bait but no luck with that, not even sure there are gills in Kirby. Still, corn works well on eating size channel cats with the wind blowing.
