Now me, I like a noisy, squeakin', squealin', water-throwing buzzbait. And in most situations the more the better.

They never come out of the package making enough noise to suit me, so I've developed several modifications to make 'em get REAL noisy.

What methods do you use to turn up the volume and call in the pigs?

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

I have tried the antenna thing and I also have a garage work bench fan that I break them in with.

If it comes with a metal bead in front of the rivet (top hat shaped thingy) remove the bead. Then make sure the rivet is crimped down tight.

To break it in you can tie it to a car antenna or air conditioning vent or underneath a bath tub faucet.

tape it so that the blade is on the down side, towards the back of the vehicle. As you drive the wind will turn the blade, the more turns, the more the squeak. If you have a long drive, then hold it out the window. I have heard of people putting it on the antenna and demolish the buzzbait because it wore all the metal off.

Ours squeek right out of the package, just ask anyone who has bought one. Each one is tuned before it goes in the package.

SkeeterDon: "I have heard of people putting it on the antenna and demolish the buzzbait because it wore all the metal off".

Found 2 of the ones they use to use on the long cane poles around stumps using the figure 8 method, back in the 40s and 50s.
They were hammered out of a kitchen spoon with red and yellow beads and tied with black and yellow deer hair. Worth about $50.

Hung one out the window, taped to the mirrow, and in less than a hour that big alum. blade is gone on the side of the road. Learned my lesson the hard way.

I crimp the rivet, flatten the blade and rivet together then "break them in" by running them under the bathtube faucet. The water keeps them from wearing out and I imagine helps hone the surfaces together better.

I want to try steel rivets to see if it makes a difference.
