I think I have made up my mind to go fishing at Marshall Creek (at the North end of Lake Grapevine). The reports on the Crappie board sound too good to not give it a try.

If you want to meet up let me know, other wise look for me I'll be on the Yellow Hobie Outback.

Well I went to Denton Creek Friday after work as I don't think I'll be going to Marshall Creek after all. Just a note there is a fee of $3.00 to enter Marshall Creek park. I did not bring any cash so that kind of facilitated me changing my plans a bit. For those who do not know, Denton creek crosses under 377 between 1171 and 114. It is just north of Marshall Creek.

How was the fishing you are thinking? I did great! Seven LARGE fish in about 45 minutes. I caught all I wanted/cared to clean and let J-Bo (a fisherman that was kind enough to show me where to fish) use my rig since he was not catching any. He ended up hanging the lure up on the first cast. He felt pretty bad for loosing my lure, I felt bad because I caught all the fish. Oh well...

Here are the specifics:

Tackle:
Ultralight w/4lb trilene xl

Lure:
1/8 oz Circada (sp) (If you've read my other reports you've heard me mention this lure before for white bass. It's no accident, it works great year round, deep, shallow, creeks, lakes, you name it. When all else fails this is my go to lure.)

Retrieval:
I worked the lure slowly, just fast enough to feel the lure working. I would raise the rod tip up to move the lure, then reel in the slack line, and repeat.

Location:
From 1171 go south on 377. Look for dirt parking area on the right about 400 yards after the Denton Creek bridge. Once there, cross over the railroad tracks and follow the ATV trail north (right), look for smaller walking trails branch off to the left and lead to the creek. Just pick one and go.

Time:
Around 4-5pm.

Weather:
Light drizzle, around 55deg.

Water:
Water quality was fairly good, stained but not muddy. I have no idea what the temp was as I was fishing from the shore.

brace_seal,

What is this lure? Circada? Is this a jig? I tried to find on the www but no results. I went to lake arlington again this morning. Bank fished, weather was too rank for the Yak. I caught 2. Last week same spot and same tackle.. White Road Runners caught tons. I need a some more go to white bass lures.

I had miss-spelled it. It is the Cicada, by Reef Runner. The website is: www.reefrunner.com
(I'm looking at the package of one of the new ones I just bought to replace the one I lost.)

Just as a note do not tie the line directly on to the line use a snap, or a snap with a swivel. Just read the back of the package it explains how to fish the lure very well. I have caught whites on the small 1/16oz. lure but the best producer is by far the 1/8oz. size.

I had one hit so hard that the whole thing was in it's mouth. It probably would have swallowed it if it hadn't hung up on it's gills.

Good luck, and I'm happy to share what works. I hope you have the same success.

Dave

I'm almost sure you paddled past me as I was fishing there at the same time from the bank just east of 377..That kayak looks like the ticket for getting into anyplace a fish might be hiding..How hard was it to learn not to end up floating head down in the water??? Good report thanks..

Those baits look like the ticket. Where do you get them?
I looked at Academy today and they don't carry that brand.

coach_lancaster,
I bought mine at Bass Pro Shop. I looked at the Wal-Mart by my house and did not see them there. It might be worth while to call a Oshman's if there is one close by. I know I have seen the lures at a store other than Bass Pro Shop, but I can't remember where.

fishinjones,
Sorry that was not me, I was on the bank yesterday. Just wanted to spend an hour or so fishing and really did not have enough time to take the kayak out. In response to how hard it is to keep from capsizing, my kayak is very stable. It depends on what type of kayak you get, some are stable enough to stand on while fishing.

Thanks Brace_Seal. That Cicada looks sweet. Are you finding any colors that work better then others? That silver looks productive. I ended up going back to creek up lake arlington yesterday evening and caught 18 and kept 8 nice ones. Was catching a lot of yellow bass. All caught on minnows. Don't usually fish with live bait but they were not taking any artificial stuff. Bank fishing is fun, but nothing compares to catching in the Yak.

Coach - I have a wilderness system Manteo 13.5 ft and never have had problems with tipping. These things are much more stable then they look.

I do not think the color matters at all. I was using the green one today on a small pond in Lewisville off of Hebron and I-35E. Tore them up again. I did not think there were any whites in this small pond but sure enough smile ...

I bought the chartruse, blue and silver. I think I'm going to buy the powder coat stuff for jigs and try it on the Cicada. I'm thinking of black for muddy water and yellow for sunny days. I'll let you know if it makes any difference at all.

I am glad you didn't notice a color that worked the best. After I posted earlier, I went to Bass Pro for some camping stuff and did pick up 4 different colors of this lure. They look sweet. I can't wait to try them out. Glad you said green worked today, I always get green lures, as that is my favorite color. If it's not productive I don't want to catch those fish anyway as they have bad color taste.

Looks like I got here late. That bait looks real similar to a Cotton Cordell "Gay Blade", which works real well for me. I like the chrome and blue.
