My first kayak (Tarpon 140) has arrived. I'll be picking it up tomarrow and will be ready to do some fishing soon. I did learn something that will save you some money if you are looking at the Tarpon series. I was first looking at the angler series which has two recessed rod holders and one on deck rod holder. This is the only difference between the Tarpon 140 and the Tarpon 140 angler series. The difference in price about $130. I purchased the rod holders seperately for $36. I'll install them and save $94.

nice kayak but did you read this? New twist: a flat-floored cockpit, perfect for standing and casting ... fishermen take note! I fish out of an oldtown loon 111 but I don't think I'll be standing up in it any time soon!!

Congratulations on your new Yak. Half the fun is rigging it up, and doing it exactly like you want. So good for you on installing the rod holders.
Good luck, Dave

Does anyone know if there is much difference between a 140 and 120? Also, can anyone compare the differnece in stability between a 120 and a Drifter?

I hear the drifter is the most stable of the bunch, but it is also the slowest. The 120 and 140 are very similar. I do not have either one but others have said that you need to add a rudder to help them track. Adding a rudder is no big deal. This is just what I've read from other posts, I do not have any of the above.

I have paddled the 140 and 160 but not the 120. The primary stability is pretty good but it is not as stable as the Drifter or the Ride. How long do you plan to paddle vs fish? The longer you paddle the longer the vessel you may want the shorter boats are great for short paddles and moving rivers with obstacles. Try before you buy. p
