It was a very tough day on the lake today. Put in at 11:00 AM to partly sunny skies temperatures in the mid 80�s and a light north wind. The lake was up slightly due to the rain over the past couple of days; however the water temperature remains in the mid to upper 70�s. The first spot I decided to try was a deep main lake point with a few large trees on it. I first pitched the trees with a jig and a shacky-head with no luck, then tried running a chatterbait and spinnerbait thru the area, still not luck. I then noticed fish hitting the surface out in about 60 feet of water, so I moved closer and tried a lipless crankbait and picked up one small (13�). Moved from there to the back side of the island and fished the roadbed using both lipless and deep diving crankbaits and a C-Rig with not so much as a bite. I then decided to try a main lake hump where I used an assortment of baits with no success. After 2 hours on the lake and having a hard time finding fish, I was all but ready to give up and had one other spot I wanted to try before I did. It was a long main lake point that I have not fished in a while, yet close to the boat ramp. Pulling up on the very end of the point, I fired a C-Rigged 6� Zoom Lizard up into the shallow water and worked it back deep. It wasn�t long before I had a fish on and within about a dozen casts I had 4 more fish. Ended the day at 2:00 PM with 6 small Largemouth Bass (nothing over 14�), a very tough day on the lake.

Thanks for the update. I went today not far from the bridge and fished a lipless crankbait just above large beds of vegetation and stumps. Spent couple of hours and caught a few 1 pounders and a nice 4 1/4. Caught one also on a senko fishing the stumps. It was cloudy skies with drizzle. Winds were about 8-10mph.

We fished Dana Peak area yesterday from 6 p.m. until dark. 1 bite, 1 fish. Tough for me too.

Any signs of hydrilla growing back in any quantity in Stillhouse?

There is hydrilla everywhere and growing great, the prodlem is right now the fish do not seem to be holding in it.

I enjoy your reports. I just picked up the rod again after an 8 year layoff. This area is new to me so I like to do my research and not waste my time. Been introducing other soldiers who haven't fished much in their life a good time as well. Its a great feeling watching someone who has hardly ever caught a fish link up with a nice fish.

Sure Strike, maybe you or someone else can help me with a question. I'm interested in trying a small tourney, just for the sake of getting better a learning from others (I'm still green myself and have never fished for competition). However, I only have a small boat with a 25hp on it and no livewell. Is a livewell always required? If so, I suppose I could get a portable one until I can have one installed.

A livewell is a must for tournaments. You have to keep those fish alive and tournaments (most) require a working livewell..
I do not know if they make a portable baitwell big enough to be a livewell

Jadler, as coachallantca stated a livewell is a must and a very important part of tournament fishing. These fish need to be released alive and healthy for another day and for others to enjoy. As for getting into tournament fishing the best advice I can give you is get yourself into a local bass club. Lucky Strike Bass Club in Killeen is a great one. You can fish as a boater or non-boater, at the same time picking up some great info from some of the area�s best fisher persons. If you have some friends that are interested bring them along. If you're interested send me an email (surestrikeguideservice@yahoo.com)and I'll get you some more information on the club. Another thing you might want to look into is the Tuesday Night Tournament on Stillhouse. It's from 6PM to 9:30PM and they launch from the marina. There are a lot of good fishing spots around there where you would not need a big boat to get too. I fished it last night and did pretty good. Finished 1st with 14.15. I knew stillhouse still had some big ones out there.

You might google toho rig livewell. Someone was selling one of these on here a while back. I don't know how well they work, but it seems like it might fit the bill.

That toho rig is nice for what I need. A little costly compared to what I think it should be but I'm considering it. Thanks guys for giving me the info. I plan on contacting Lucky Strike soon and getting started.

Where does one start on stillhouse? I heard its been tough out there lately..What baits do i throw and where? Ive been out there several times but no luck..Any suggestions?

Look for hydrilla.

In the mornings find some shallow grass and throw a frog or Buzz-bait. As the sun gets higher in the sky, move to some deeper weed beds and fish a C-Rig Lizard or a shacky-head in and around the grass. When the sun starts to go down move back shallow.
