i just very recently started crappie fishing. and i was just wondering what type of line you guys prefer, as i am going to academy on the way home today. i know its a lot of personal preference, but i wanted to go having some set choices already. any other tips or tricks you fellas have up your sleeves for fishing off docks would be greatly appreciated as well thanks guys!

For a rookie, I would suggest about 8lb test mono in a bright hi vis line.

You can't go wrong with Suffix Seige 8# in the Neon Tangerine Orange. Very tough, very visible & low memory. That's my

Might as well start off right and get some Berkley Fireline Braid in about 10-14 pound test. I have over 50 rod and reel combos and I have mono on ONE of them for a reason.... Everything else is either braid or hybrid mono/fluorocarbon.

If you have to get some today then any of the above is ok. I would order Fluorotex from Lake Fork Trophy Lures in 10, 8 or 6 lb. It is a hi-vis orange, very low memory, ultra strong, plus extreme knot strength. LFT Lures now has it in 700 spools for $7. Don't let the price fool you. In clear water (which we don't have a lot of), I will place a clear leader of mono (12-18 inches) to it. This is a specialized line made for panfish by LFT Lures. Lake Fork Trophy Lures

IMO go with a Suffix braid orange and tie a fluorocarbon leader 3-4 ft on the end with a uni knot. For example I go with 20lb braid and tie 6lb fluorocarbon. They have the same diameter. The benefits are no memory, no line twist, super sensitive.

No problems attaching jigs straight to the hi-vis lines. Caught plenty of crappie that way.

I use to use Mr. Crappie high vis but I am now a Suffix neon orange convert. That is line is very strong and I can set it just as well as I could Mr. Crappie.
