Not good to be there on any Holiday or at night, which is probably true for any Urban Community Lake. Most of the time its quite. I haven't had the opportunity to fish there very much but used to live nearby and would take the kids to feed ducks.
Day time = OK; Night Time = Be Careful; Holiday's = Stay Home not worth the risk

I never fished that lake before until this past spring and have never had an issue. Then again, I'm not a person who goes looking for trouble! I usually fish early mornings and mid-day. I will continue to fish there.

Ya! Not safe. Stay away from the lake. On cold nights nov-Jan , the homeless live under the bridge. So winter time is super un safe. Never go there in the winter. Or spring. Only go in august. Fishing is great then.

I was thinking about giving it a shot but I knew this area was unsafe a long time ago...just needed a reminder.

I fished there bright and early and there were maybe 5 peope, all older ladies, walking around.. We didn't see these gun-carrying gangbangers that yal are afraid of.
Caught some fish, laughed and talked
my advice for that place is don't call someone to meet you out at the lake at 11pm with a bag of weed in your car..
You don't always need a boat.. But gosh darn it, sure helps!

Yeah, my understanding is, you never see anyone out here that looks like a gangbanger....until one walks up on you. I've never seen them either but apparently they are there. I hardly think a bag of weed will get you shot. Well maybe a very large bag of weed.

They best make sure theirs is bigger than mine!

I've lived in this area for a few years, it can be bad at night as there is very little to poor visibility. I would not recommend fishing at all at night since visibility is so poor, most of the time even on weekends the parking lots can get crowded. Aside from some crowded or rowdy Hispanics its not really a big deal. Do avoid holidays and night time fishing, but during the day you can always find Anglers out there, children and grownups alike. There use to be a boat ramp out by where the "shooting" took place but i have not been on that side of the lake in a few years so i dont know if its still there. There are many bank fishing spots of choice with great views. I plan on going fishing with my bro out there next year when he comes back into town.
New to fishing, always looking for some back roads locations near by to go fishing. Favorite book...One catfish, Two catfish, Redfish, Bluegill

It coulda happened anywhere, and these were just a bunch of stupid kids, wannabe gangbangers. I don't know the intimate details but judging from the ages of those involved, it was most likely a drug deal gone bad, a fight over girlfriends, or rival gangs and their women. that area where it took place is a dicey area, that i hardly ever fish, because better fishing can be found in other places(I fished this lake for over thirty yrs, and still counting, and have NEVER had a problem). I don't go looking for it, and it sure hasn't found its way to me.
If you are gonna be stupid enough to go where the questionable crowds are all bunched up(the NW Hwy parking lots) then you pretty much are gonna get what you asked for. My wife walks this lake on the trail twice a week, i fish it damn near daily, but we DO NOT go near those big parking lots. What happened here on Sunday night, happened in threee other places in vastly different parts of the city, ON THE SAME NIGHT!!
THIS IS AN URBAN METROPOLITAN CENTER, AND THIS KIND OF STUFF HAPPENS!!
You guys stay away, and T-Fly, Crappie Dude and a few other regulars will continue to have world class fishing to ourselves, pretty much the way we have always had it, and I WILL continue to catch limits of slab crappie, late at night, from November to March, like i have for the past 30 yrs.
Thanks,
Rudy
