I use a Mainstream Patriot. It is a sit inside model and is rated for 450 lbs

Wilderness Systems Ride, Ocean Kayak's Drifter, Cobra's Fish'n Dive are all big boy kayaks. Go check out Texaskayakfishing.com for a ton of info.

My brother-in-law is about 6'3" and is probably pushing 275. He has a Wilderness Systems Ride and loads it down with every kind of gear imaginable and it still floats. :p You can see in this pic that he definitely doesn't pack light. He carries a couple of fully loaded tackle bags, three rods, an anchor and a lot of other random gear: He even sits side-saddle in it with no problems:

I have 4 Malibu Kayaks. There is nothing better than the X-Factor for a big guy. See: http://www.malibukayaks.com/kayak_xFactor.asp. I'm taking mine out for a spin today.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

what an honor to get "The Man" to post in our area Mainstream Patriot SIK, (not sink). in shallow water, it is easy to get in. dry ride. plenty of room for gear. cant remeber lb. rating, but it is enough same as Coach Lancaster.

Lets consider cost via performance also!
Crank-B8, Your brother-in-law has the SUV syndrome in that yak, VERY top heavy, a visual is all thats needed.
Forget performance also because hey whats speed have to do with safety?
For a big guy 300+lb I would go with the ApexII and put the money saved towards more fishing tackle.
Fish hard but never forget your responsibility protecting what we love. Leave a area in better condition than you found it, RESPECT!

Take that Apex II, melt the sucker down, and go make a few milk jugs. The Mainstream Kingfisher would be a better cheap kayak. But, the new Ride, the Drifter, and the Cobra's better suit the budget set forth.
