get rid of some real trophy fish... to save some dinky [censored] trout LOL... Those folks chasing the trout spend alot of money traveling down, staying at the camp grounds and cabins in the off season for the river ect.... IMO the Trout fishing enthusiasts make the carp and bass gear snobs look like people on food stamps. They have alot of money, and what makes politics work for you?? Money! Just my .02, I'm not a local just a casual observer that visits the river a couple times a year.

Honestly, I'd rather see the trout fishery healthy in the Guad than the stripers. It was an awesome, unique experience to catch those trout on the Guad. I'm not talking about the dink fish.....I'm talking about the 20 plus inchers. Striper are available in so many locations throughout the south. Rainbow trout are not. I say shock as many as they can out of the river. The trout brought me to that river in the winter.

I'm going to take a random guess at why they were removing them.
1. For the trout they stock 2. Might have something to do with the declining Guad bass population, remove the stripers and the guads have a better chance to grow up??
I'm sure those 40+ pound stripers could eat a ton of small guads...

I'd rather them stock guads, smallies and LMB in the river....fish that can actually survive year round here. And don't give me that "deep pool" bs. I'm sure a few trout may survive. La tee freakin dah! Can the fly fisherman not catch bass on the fly??? This is just one man's opinion and you know what they say about that.
FISH ON!! <'///><

Does any body know if they were released back into the river! These stripers belong to you and me. The trout die every year the stripers live. These giants are what we dream of catching.

Prob sold to a private lake for special stockings, remember we are the TPWD's arm pit apparently. Can anybody think of any positives they have done for our area within the last 10 years?

I'm still upset with TPWD for making Calaveras and Braunig into experimental stocking ponds way back in the late 80's and 90's but when I say the redfish and all the other trash fish they stocked killed off the crappie and blackbass I get flammed for my opinion, but so be it, because it's the truth. Many on this forum weren't alive back then or don't remember that far back, or care to!

If you go back to page one and read the bottom paragraph of the original post, this is what it says.
Quote:..."A Big Thank You to TPWD personel and Jesus De Marcos for carrying out this relocation. He tells me these fish will be taken to the hatchery and be used to create more fry for the Striper Programs."
It's just another prime example of what happens when exotics are stocked in that it just causes problems. If they stocked native species in the first place that actually spawn and live in our lakes, we would save money and have decent fisheries instead of having TPWD have to step in every so often to correct one of their many flubs.

They release the big bass back after they spawn. This is not the case with stripers. The trout are not native they should have them removed! Jimbo, this is why I followed up on this story. These giants need to be returned to the river.

These giants need to be returned to the river. The stripers are not native to the lakes and rivers of Texas just as the trout are not, and both were stocked by TPWD. The stripers got into the river when the gates were opened at the dam during flooding and escaped into the river, so the stripers are just like the trout and TPWD is responsible for both being there where niether belong since they aren't native species. It's a case of again TPWD manipulating the fish populations as they have for years. TPWD also years ago stocked Walleye which didn't fair too well, and smallmouth bass which did take hold and then stripers which don't spawn naturally, but like the redfish in Calaveras and Braunig have to be restocked to replinish what has been caught.
