Amazing! No telling how many presentations you could make with a reel that weighed half as much. Lol.

Joe, I agree with you, it sounds like these young pups need to start a work out program so they can fish all day without getting tired sore muscles.

LOL, I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I get so tired of the whining from the young 'uns about the weight of reels. Really? 4-5 oz is going to wear you out? Geez. These guys would have had to stay at home and watch cartoons back in the day. We used the old Ambassadeur reels (green, red or black) and they were much heavier than todays reels yet I don't recall being "worn out" after fishing all day, other than catching so many fish! Heck, even the rods were made of fiberglass and were heavier. We thought we were kings when the first boron and graphite rods rolled out. Still can't say a rod/reel combo designed for freshwater fishing has worn me out.

I'm a big fan of the science of it,.....makes all the sense in the world. But, why is it so expensive? And, why no left-hand model? And, why so heavy?
I also looked into the U.S. Reel with the trick 'level-wynd' system. But, a lefty is not offerred.
I just feel that a more simple design, narrow and without level wind, with good anti-reverse feature,.... would work better for pitching.
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

Right. Simple, lighter,is better. Just use a reel you currently have for Pitching. Left handed reel is the way to go. No need to spend money on a "Gimmick" reel.

He didn't say he was Left Handed. Best to place the rod in your dominant hand. Pitch the bait, then crank with your off hand. I'm right handed and use left handed reels.

IMO with baitcasting reels, it all got started on the left foot, so to speak.
But, they got it right with spinning reels.
Now, since most baitcasting reels are available in 'left-hand', there's no more need to switch hands.
And, it's all much better for right-handed me.
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

I have not even touched one but from the reviews I have seen it is pretty much junk.
Plus,if I read it correctly, there is no drag adjustment. 22# fixed Drag? The Guts in that reel (The clutch system) cannot handle that constant abuse. I have played around with an older model and it had a PLASTIC worm gear. Embarrassing.
For the Same money you can buy a Shimano Castaic and have a versatile reel with better features and some semblance of an idea that it will hold together over time. +1 Toyed around with a couple of Ardents at Bass Pro and thought they were cheaply made. I love my Shimano Castaic, super smooth and love the size. Casts spinnerbaits a mile and can pitch a spinnerbait with accuracy. I was fortunate to find one at Academey last year for 99.00, shame it was the last one.

I was fortunate to find one at Academey last year for 99.00, shame it was the last one. The F700 has no level wind or plastic gears it was confirmed by others in this thread. Shimano Castaic Ball Bearings: 4+1 Max Drag: 9.2 Lbs. Line cap 14# 110yds. Recovery: 26" Per Turn Reel Weight (oz.): 8.6 Ardent Denny Brauer Signature F-700 Flip-N-Pitch Reel Ball Bearings: 7+1 Max Drag: 22 Lbs. 20# 65 yds. Recovery: 26" Per Turn Reel Weight (oz.): 10.9 Here is the difference in these two reel the ardent has a high 22 pound drag compared to 9.2 lbs. drag on the Castaic. The ardent is designed for braided line or heavy mono for flipping it's not a casting reel. The Ardent has 8 abec 5 bearing compared to the Castaic it has 5 abec 3! The Castaic is clearly a casting real primarily! This is the reason why Shimano owner have a bearing upgrade to abec 5 orange seal bearing. The ardent comes with more bearings and better bearings to handle the punishment of flipping. My son bought a F500 and I tried it and I like it. So I bought one too! The f700 and F500 may not be much to look at until you fish with one, then you will see how well it performs.
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

My first bait caster a 5000c and a fiber glass heavy action pistol grip rod wight in at 20 oz. Weight is what you get used to! The reel is going strong after 40 years.
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

The f700 and F500 may not be much to look at until you fish with one, then you will see how well it performs. I'm going to guess that you mean to say 'pitching' instead of "flipping". I can go "flipping" fishing with just a line and cane pole (no reel). But, pitching requires a dedicated purpose-built reel, in order to easily achieve the pitching distance that I like. I'm referring to my own experience, fully realizing that other fishing persons can perform better than I.
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

No,man. The lighter your rig,the more presentations you can make, and the less fatigue you will experience.
