Sometimes the fish like an erratic retrieve. I put part of a lead nail weight in the nose of the bait. I like to use a bright color, ( bubblegum, sherbert, or just white) Try and keep about a 1' - 2' below the surface and basically work like you would work a zara spook, but fast. You will get a lot of reaction strikes when the fish are in that mode.

the hook size is your weight for a weightless fluke.

Tried fishing with a weightless fluke today, and didn't have any luck. I tried giving it small twitches, then letting it sink, and repeat. Is that a wrong tecnique? What conditions should it be fished in? That is the way you fish it. I fish it weightless with a 4/0 wide gap hook, sometimes I will add a nail weight to the nose of the bait and when I want to fish it deeper then I use a weighted hook with it. Fish it weightless when you are targeting shallow fish. You fished it correctly, you just didn't get bit. It happens, just keep fishing it. Watermelon seed super fluke, dip the tail in chartruce dip n dye and you are in business.

When you have fish boling and bait fish working the surface fish it like a Zarra Spook. Keep the rod tip high off to your right and twitch it fast and throw slack back at the bait between twitches to walk the dog right on top. This works best around matted grass or emergent shore/ gator grass, duck weed, lilly pads and stick ups. Their are times when a fluke type bait will out fish a frog over matted grass.
Also killer early around boat docks, rock/ rip rap, retainer walls and walk way posts. The posibilities are limitless once you get the feel for how the fish want you to present the bait.

Buy the Banjo Minnow instead!
You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

I like a white pearl fluke on a 4/0 EWG and like everyone said above you can twitch it under the surface like a spook, dead stick it, let it fall hop and let it fall, skip it under trees, chase schooling fish, the list goes on and on.

Everyone's got it pretty much covered. Fish it slow and fish around flats near deeper water, heavy or light cover. Always helps to slow down a little bit.

I have had quite a bit of success using the double fluke, easier to explain if you google it. But fished wieghtless, nothing better than doubling up!

Everyone says "fish slow" "once you slow down...slow down some more". What does this mean? I imagine everyone's idea of slow is different. So how long do you leave your bait in the area you are targeting?

So I shouldn't be fishing it weightless? A small bullet or dropshot works better? No, a small bullet weight doesn't work better but depending on the conditions it can. Weightless, split shot and dropshot are the best because it will allow te bait to shimmy down as it falls. That is what makes the fluke catch so many fish. I very rarely fish a fluke with a bullet... Just my .02
Take Dead Aim I'd rather be lost on the water than found at work! SkeeterEater

You can fish it on a baitcaster.. however I like a spinning reel... with a calm surface it's easily fished with no weight.. I like to fish it with a small split shot... a few inches above the lure... just a regular worm hook will work .. I like 3/0 hook..
and the key for me is to count 1-2...rhythm... and it's a walking the dog retrieve like you use for a zara spook... not a quick 1-2... just a regular 1-2 and go to watermelon seed for color.... I do better with it on a cloudy day...
If it's real bright, go to a weighted hook with the same 1-2 retrieve...
also, if they don't bite the fluke.. use this same technique with the Senko.. in green...
Anyways.. good luck...

Most likely you're fishing it too fast if you're not getting bit. Slow down and pause longer between twitches to keep your bait deeper. +2 Made a world of difference to me when I SLOWED DOWN....
