I keep looking in the newspaper and sheriffs report for Rains and Wood County for this and haven't seen anything. No jail reports either?

Did find it kinda odd the Rains County Sheriffs Department put an article up about "Protecting your property"

http://rainscountytoday.com/clients/rainscountytoday/Article0426.pdf

HELP TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY
Unfortunately we live in times where thieves and criminals are abundant. Although we
can all do our best to ensure that no one is able to steal our property, by keeping it out of
sight - ultimately, if our property is taken, you can assist law enforcement in recovering it
by making sure it is clearly marked.
Before getting into techniques for marking items, it is important to ensure that we can
recognize our property when we see it. After all, its difficult to differentiate one laptop
from another of the same make and model.
When purchasing a valuable item that you would not want to lose, one should be cautious
and take a brief minute to write down the items make and model and any serial number
found on the item. Not only will this list serve useful in identifying any items that are
returned after their theft or loss, but it will also be helpful in the event that the items are
not returned and an insurance claim needs to be made.
Once a clear list of owned items is developed, you should mark them with personally
identifying information. There are a number of different ways to etch items. An electric
etching pencil can be used to scratch an identifying mark into the item. You could also
try chemical etching method. Finally, one can also use a self adhesive label or tag in
order to mark and identifjr property.
Whichever marking method you use, there is a fine balancing act to be executed. One the
one hand, markings should not be executed in a way that harms the function or outward
appearance of the item that is marked. On the other hand the markings must be large and
clear enough to be read, while also being prominent enough that their removal or erasure
would be immediately clear. This is one of the benefits to using good quality fixed labels
as a marking method-scratching or sanding over these would be immediately noticeable
and would likely damage the property they are affixed to.
When marking the item you should choose a consistent and unique mark. A good choice
would be a contact phone number or email address. A postal address or just a postcode
could be another option as well. In any case, the marking should be adequate to identify
you or your business as the rightful owner.
Essentially its an owners diligence that can help to safegwd their property. However, by
taking the simple steps of marking items of value as advised above, the owner can make
it less attractive to the common thief and more likely to be returned. We feel that this is a
very generous trade-off for expending just a little bit of time, expenditure and effort.

The man did the right thing. I know from personal experience. I shot and killed a man attempting to break in to my home 20 years ago. It cost me many thousands of dollars just to be sure there wasn't a problem through the grand jury process. I didn't have to have the lawyer, but the stakes are high. Then I learned the guy was a gang member. I had kids in the school district(the gang was in the district- younger siblings etc.)). I carried a shotgun for a year to see which way the wind would blow. He also had a baby and a common law wife. Civil suit was another possiblity. I also go to church. What do you say there? Did I have to kill him? Was it the right thing? I have been working on that for 20 years.

The ironic thing is that if the guy had ASKED my brother for scrap/junk metal..... my brother would have helped him load it up.

He said the stuff he signed had about 15 offenses listed, they are going to try to get this guy GONE.

"bullet or car, your choice." that one should be put in a movie!

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm glad he didn't have to fire on the guy. I hate thieves as much as any of you, but killing another person, thief or not is going to be hard on the average person. Congrats to your brother on keeping a cool head and doing everything right. Hopefully the scum goes away for a long time.

You're right on about this. I would be affected if I killed someone. A lot of people hate thieves but I doubt there is anybody here that hasn't stole something.

I think 99.9% of the problems are caused by 0.1% of the people. It just wasn't a person stealing one thing, what else have they stole and will steal in the future? person is a bad person as a thief, what other bad things do they do? drugs? cheat on taxes? abuser? use live bait?
