 abu black max....im tearin my hair out here

I have the cast control cranked all the way down and the brakes fully engaged but it backlashes every cast without fail. Any ideas?? Anyone dealt with this before? I have h2o 10lb mono on it. I'm about to just toss it out.

Had the same problems with one that I got as a gift, it now sits in the garage gathering dust. I will not recommend them or use one. Get a Shimano.

You may have punctured the piece of copper whaffer in the spool tension cap, take the cap off and check. There should be an extra one in the spare parts bottle that came with the reel. If not check with Paul at www.southwesternparts.com in Dallas.

I've had the same problem. I only use heavy lures on it now. It's still not great, but its has stopped bird nesting as often.

I have one... don't use it anymore. The only thing it was ever good for was throwing heavy baits

Unless you have $100 bucks to spend, stay away from the Abu reels. I love my revos and the new orras, but the MAX series just flat out not worth the risk. I'm a big fan of Abu, but they do need to put some attention into the Max line because they stink.

If they put more attention on the Max line, it would hurt the Revo line

Those were the very first reels(3 of them) I purchased when I started bass fishing five years ago and I, as well as my 2 grandkids still use them to this day. The rods that came with them are another story.
Don't just let them sit there and gather dust if you are not going to use them, just ship them to me I'll take them all....just sayin'

I got the black max and have the same issues you are describing. I can't seem to fine tune it at all based on the lure I'm using. Purchased a Lews based on the advice of others and the difference was well worth the extra cash. Returning my black max today actually.

I have one, never had that problem.
Its a cheap reel, but does enough from what I need it to do.
The only time it did backlash on me was because I forgot to tune the brake when changing lures, or when I have my line buried in the spool.
But if you have it set at maximum, something definitely broke in the brake mechanism.
What weight are you using?
