I would like to see what my score is. I've always heard you can get one free check a year. How does a guy go about this?

There's lots of websites out there that can provide that. But I think most will also require you to provide credit card info before giving you youre free report (to bill you in case your trial goes over a month).

freecreditreport.com is one of them.
They will provide your current scores to Experian, Transunion, etc along with a report.

Its good to check it at least twice a year IMO.

I was getting declined for small services (cable, small financing on furniture).
I found out that someone in New Hampshire opened several credit accounts in my name.

On top of that, my bank account was hacked twice in the past 10 months.

One thing, a car loan that has been paid for a year or so still shows as "open." Should I be concerned?

I would for sure be asking some questions. The main thing is that it does not show a balance or late. It should be reported as closed and paid. Sometimes the reporting companies can help with this but be ready to sit on hold when you call.

It shows in good standing and all payments made and all that good stuff. I thought it was strange though. I'll have to give them a call.
