I'm going to buy a rod for square bills and both of thess models have what I'm looking for, which is; MH, less than 7', and a softish tip. What do those of you who have experience with the rods have to say about it?

Also, I'd love to hear about other rods in that price range that fit my criteria.

Don't have any of the GL2's but have plenty of Caras. You won't be dissapointed with any of the Falcon Cara rods.

+1

I really like the CLC-4-17 Composite Cranker for square bills. Which Cara model are you looking at? I probably have it too.

I have both and they are both great rods.
You can't go wrong with them.

The Falcon I'm looking at is the T7 Split-Grip "Angler of the Year".

I use the AOY for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, swim jigs/chatterbaits. It really like that rod too. It is a good multi-purpose rod.

However, I still prefer the composite cranker for square bills. It still has plenty of backbone too.

I'd rather have the Cara for that technique.

The new GL2's are just better/snazier components on an otherwise mediocre blank IMO.

There are rods in the $100 range that I prefer to the older model GL2's.

I have two of the Cara Head Turners. I throw a lot of square bills on this rod. It has good tip action but good backbone for pulling them out of the sticks.
