I forget if I heard it on the radio or TV the other day but they said that TPWD just within the last week or so has opened up the hunting of nuisance gators in TX. Not sure when it was to go into effect.

It's gator season in non core counties. With a hunting license, gator kill report sent to txpw, and 27 bucks for the tag anyone can get one a year in non core counties. On public water you have to use set lines, like a drop line with bait suspended above the water and basically fish for them. On private water you can harvest them with a rifle. I'm trying to get another weekend off before the end of June when season ends to try to get one around Huntsville.

It is true the gator got loose from the wildlife refuge and was spotted at the one of the dams at EM it was 8-9 ft tall, the person that shot is likley to be fined for shooting it since it was protected under the wildlife refuge. that is the story i heard this weekend.

If the person who killed it did so without a permit, it is a Class C Misdemeanor, not a felony. The state (TPWD) would certainly seek fines and civil restitution. CR on a gator that size would probably be around $2,000.

Ya I knew there was a bunch below the spillway, and I've seen the one that floats around harbor one.....I was hoping he hadn't become a problem and they killed it. For some reason every time one is spotted below the dam, everyone claims that as Eagle Mountain. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more on the lake in my opinion...just adds to the thrill when your noodling! Lol

Ya I wasn't sure the charge, just meant it was illegal by any means....other than "self defense"
