I know its taboo to fish deep diving cranks on a high speed reel, but as of late I've been using my 7.1:1. I've almost always used a faster reel for small cranks and squarebills, but I've been using it on deep divers and liking it. Now I dont mean super deep cranking, where I've been using it is anywhere from 16-24 feet or so and I like being able to pick up slack quickly after ripping it through cover, plus I can just barely turn the handle and not wear myself out turning the handle.

Anybody else do this??????

I cant keep the bait in the strike zone long enough out deep. My new combo will have a low ratio

I recently tried that. Still caught fish but not as many as a 6.3.1

Throw dd22's all day on a 7:1 and your wrist and forarm will be screaming.

I think the opposite. with a 7.1 I have to reel much slower, and with a 5.2 I'm making many more revolutions of the handle.

This is true, however the gearing in a 5.1:1 ratio will put less torque on your wrists.

I seen a video where KVD said he uses a 7:1 reel for a 6xd. I tried but I prefer the lower ratios. I think it just comes down to comfort level.

Just saw a KVD video today saying that he uses a 6:1 for square bills but the 5:1 for deep divers. Explained the reason too. I believe it as a Bass Pro show.

I have a set up with a 7:1 that I throw dd22's all day long on, doesn't give me any issues.
I have a 5.4 I use too, I like the 7:1 when I want deeper and a faster speed to trigger fish on a high pressured lake that are used to seeing dd22's go by at a 5.4 pace.
