They have been stocking lake Austin for years, maybe I think over 4,000 were released last year.Increasing the number to 6,000 hopefully will help,plus catching and releasing grassers is fun.

What's the deal with LBL? On one side of the dam They are stocked and you must'nt harm grassser's on the other side of the dam you break the law if you don't gut them in front of a crowd!Is there a shortage on weeds at LBL?

The weeds in LBL are nothing compared to the weeds in LA. The only place that's bad on LBL is Barton springs during the warm months. It's still not comparable to the amount of weed on LA. Plus pleasure boaters aren't allowed on LBL so there isn't anybody complaining about weeds there. The bass fisherman on LA absolutely hate the fact that TPWD is releasing so many grassers on LA because all that weed makes for a helluva bass fishery, which is why so many quality bass come from LA on the reg. those bass fisherman hate grassers with a passion! I personally don't think that releasing more grassers into LA is going to have much of an effect for the long term but it might help momentarily? I think they'd be way better off with an annual drawdown for a few years in a row. But not like the last one that was cut short. That one didn't have time to take full effect but still probably had more of an effect on the weed than all of the 15000 new grassers will

Do grassers affect bass fishing in other ways beside eating cover for the bass? The amount of weeds they are eating seems to be only enough to barely keep the lake from being strangled even worse than it is.Seems like the grassers could only help.

I had a conversation with the TPWD biologist and he said that grassers will only eat one or two kinds of water plants and they hate kingsfoil (or something like that) which is what a lot of the grass is in lbl and la. But LA also has an abundance of the kinds they do eat.

@greentumater

It was a great fight.

It's likely since the state of Arkansas lost so many fertile Grass Carp (escaped during floods) that the Mississippi River System is now well stocked with non-diploid Grass Carp.

There is now a well established fertile population of Grass Carp in almost half of the lower 48 states.

Grass Carp here to stay.
