Hey everyone. I teach a Royal Rangers class for Faith Tabernacle in Denton, TX...ages 7-12. We're going to have a camping/fishing trip in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone might be willing to help us out. I'm looking for some old fishing equipment that someone would be willing to sell cheap or donate to the church for this, and future occasions. We don't need anything special, just something to wet a line. Maybe even some cane poles would suffice. Some of these boys are very much underprivelaged and may never get the opportunity to catch a fish. Help me give them "The Bug" & pass on a tradition that has blessed all of us TFFers. I work in Dallas, live in Ponder. I'll make arrangements for pick up & all donations would be tax exempt. Any good camping equipment would be welcome too

Stinkbait - This year we're having the campout at a ranch a friend of mine owns, in Drop, TX (near Justin). We're looking at June 1st. The boys will be fishing in a creek that runs through the property. The owner told me they caught a 20lb cat out of there a few years back... I'd like to see the look on an 8 year old's face after having hooked onto one of those haha. I think they're mostly small cats in there though... but fun non the less.
Gator - I'll give that one some thought, we'll probably be fishin' for cats using worms, or stink bait... Are the plastics for bass, pan fish or both?
I'm gonna bring some nylon & bacon, maybe we can catch some craws too, that was a great passtime for me as a kid.

Thanks for the offer gator. I think we'll pass this time around. I'd hate for them to go to waste, I dont think we'll be fishing for bass. Appreciate it though I knew there would be people on this forum willing to help out. Fishermen always have a heart for passing on the tradition. You guys are awesome.

Success! Just wanted to follow up & let you all know how it went. We had 16 boys, ages 7 to 12 join us in the camp out. We started the counsel fire with a story about Elija calling down fire, followed by a devotion by a "special speaker" (our pastor, Randy Snow). We followed this up with marshmallows, smores & hot dogs. The night was wrapped up with a few rounds of capture the flag with flashlights in a grassy field. The next morning we got up, ate breakfast & went straight to the creek to do some fishing. My boys let others who didn't have poles use theirs & helped me with removing fish from the hooks. Everyone caught something, some 3, 4 or 5 fish mostly perch & small catfish but they still had a blast! From here we took them to shoot targets. Little Red Rider BB guns... taught them how to aim with open sights. The grand finally consisted of hot dogs w/ home made chilli (thanks to my beautiful wife). All in all, I have to say it was a successful outing...We gave them the Fishin' Bug & hopefully made an impact on their lives. I'm Thankful for all help I had from the men involved with the Royal Ranger ministry at Faith Tabernacle.
