Any information on this fishery would be helpful. I am going to a family re-union with my wife and plan on spending some time on the water.

It is just South of Shreveport. I assume that there is a series of lakes, because you have to go through locks to go from area to area. I know that there have been some big tournaments there and it is supposed To be good, but I have no idea about water clarity, depth, or structure. I am not looking for anyone's secret spots, just kind of trying to figure out what to plan for.

Then you will be mainly around pools 4 and 5. You can launch at Red River South Marina (this is where the 09 and 12 Classics launched from), or you can also launch from Clarks. Red River South has the nicer marina, but Clarks will put you closer to better fishing areas (just my opinion).
Some of the areas that are popular are McDade, Caspiana, The Whitehouse.
This river is pretty versatile, you can fish rocks, stump beds, brush, hyacinths, lillys, etc. It fishes pretty shallow, 1-7 foot range is where I catch them mostly, depending on the time of year.
Here is a recent fishing report from one of the forums:
"Went out of clark's last saturday and fished caspiana all day. boated 8, 6 were keepers, lost a couple decent ones at the boat. 2 early fish came on a squarebill crank bait in stumps about 3 feet of water, the rest came on a blue havoc juice worm in about 5-6 feet of water, had to switch to a magworm hook because they were just biting the tail and running with it. Biggest fish went almost 3lbs"
Good luck and be careful out there, it can be dangerous if you are not familiar with it.

If you put in at Clarks, flip a worm underneath the wooden walkway where the gas pump is, and hold on.
Keep working your way towards the boat slips (north), go past the slips and start fishing that shoreline, flipping your favorite bait to any piece of wood. 8" of water is plenty deep, pitch the water between the drifts and the bank, definitely need to be rigged for bear.
Once done there, head towards the main river and there are several pockets just to the north of Clarks that have reeds, pick up your flippin stick again and flip those reeds.
The first pocket south of Clarks has a point on the East side, bulldozer point because there really is a bulldozer on it. When they release the lock, current flows through there and the fish will go nuts when the shad ball up. Keep on fishing down that area to the "Pink House".
There's also a shallow hump straight out from bulldozer point, flip everything.
How's that?

What is it that makes it dangerous if not familiar? Just curious.

Jettes, stumps and shallow flats. I wouldn't run outta the main river much at all. You can run down some of the jettes and in some of the lakes but it's best to start idling once you get outta the main river channel. All the fishing info above is accurate. Clark's, caspiana and mcdades are all good areas to try. I have had good luck on white house too.

We did pretty good last weekend in Sullivan's in pool 4. Black spro frog early in the pads towards the front. Then square bills (chartreuse/black back H2O) and plastics in stumps on the ridges towards the back of the oxbow in 4-6'.
