Looking to buy a good rod. Most fishing will be in shallows. Considering a G Loomis if they are worth the extra money. Using a C3 6500 reel. Any advice appreciated.

From your post, I don't know what type of rod you're looking at, but I recommend you take a look at Denali Rods. Their Rosewood series rods are comparable to the Loomis IMX rods I had been using and sell for around $200. Top of the line rods with quality components. You can go to their website and see the entire line.

Loomis IS NOT worth the extra money .... I have 3 and they are now just spares! There are lots of rods on the market with Loomis quality and better warranty .... if a Loomis rod breaks they want $100 more PLUS TAX to replace it. I now mainly use Dobyns rods, but I am sure that there are cheaper rods just as good if not better than Loomis.

I like Kistlers and Falcons personally. It's all personal preference, as you can see by all of the posts here being different brands than you mentioned. If you like it and it feels right to you, get it. If not, move on to the next one and try again. Good luck on your search!

You have to decide which is more important.

What are you going to use it for? Bottom contact baits or moving baits? For that matter, if you are using a 6500 reel, are you bait fishing or catfishing? Lots of factors determine what type of rod would work best. Loomis makes some good rods, but some series are grossly overpriced.

Just picked up another reel, a Revo STX. Looking at getting 2 TFO Tactical rods. Moving bait, mostly top waters.

Try an allstar rod, their cheaper than loomis,i got one with a older 5000d round baitcast, works awesome.but it was given to me.and all my other rods were purchased at walmart,so save your money and go to walmart, you can get a great rod, that will last as long as a loomis.good luck
