Thought I'd share a little current info on a small lake you usually don't hear about, Lake Fannin in far north Fannin County.
Why would this lake appeal to tubers? 1)Crystal clear water, and I mean clear. 2)No power boats allowed. 3)NEVER have seen a poisonous snake in the water, nor many water snakes. 4)Plenty of little coves and areas to get out of the wind. 5)Plenty of structure including some rock, brush piles, humps, island, cattails, etc. 6)Quiet, peaceful, beautiful. 7)FISH!!! Huge bream by the bucketfull. 8)Fish!!! Huge crappie. Never have thrown back an undersize crappie. They are elusive, hard to find, don't follow the normal patterns, but they are big. 9)If bass are your thing, this is the lake for you. You can't catch crappie for the bass hitting anything that moves. Not real big bass, but healthy. 10)Catfish are plentiful and some downright prehistoric big.
I post my honey hole here for all to see. The lake has almost fallen into private hands twice in the last so many years. It's just not used by tubers or yakers. It's barely used at all. I can go out everyday for a week and not see a soul on the bank or water, sans weekends.
There are two earthern ramps for launching small boats from, primitive camp sites and a trashcan...that's it. The scenery is awesome and makes you really wonder if your in this part of the state or east Texas. A small store is just 4 miles down the road. They have worms, frozen shad and liver but no minnows. They also have a cafe, gas, and most basic grocery supplies as well as a few camping/fishing related items.
So, there it is. A great place to weekend or hit after work. Deer, hog, turkey, bobcat, bald eagle, and a host of other wildlife may be seen. Game Warden makes a trip or two a day down there and workers are rebuilding the antique lodge on the other side of the lake if security is of concern. Hiking is great and there are a couple of small ponds in the vicinity for those who like to walk. Just carry something while walking because there are huge hogs rooting around between the lake and the Red River.

Tude, thanks for sharing this awesome place. I've seen signs for it, but, never ventured there. Maybe one of these days.
How is it that this place has "almost" fallen into private hands twice?

Tude, about how big is the lake. Sounds like a good place to meet with little boats and tubes.
