I'm not new at all to fishing but I am new to kayak fishing. I have learned quick that it can get pretty goofy very fast. Setting the hook in some awkward positions, rods tangled, wrapped up in trees and weeds, "boating" fish, fighting the wind....etc. and have some pretty funny stories about my learning experiences.

I have been out about 15 times now and I can stay I have minimized these goofy situations but still find myself in one from time to time. I know that I will get better with time and I dig the challenge of it. Kayak positioning BEFORE I cast is very important among other things. There is defentily a learning curve and I can see how some may be better than others when it comes to kayak fishing.

You can minimize it but you can't avoid it altogether. Just too much going on in a small space. Add in some flying hooks and a stiff wind and soon you are looking like the floating version of the three stooges. Lately I have found some fat sandies and hybrids along a wind blown shore biting when its blowing 15 to 20. Trouble is I have to troll right up to the brush. When the fish strikes I have a few seconds to turn out, get the fish under control and get far enough away from shore to get the fish in the net. By then I'm usually right back against the button bush.

It will get better with time and practice, but Spiny is right, there's a lot going on in a relatively small amount of space. Either way, though, it's always fun.
