Has anyone had any experience with these motors? I blew up my old Yamaha and talked to the boat dealer about a 150 Etec, he said they come with "Free" rigging and gauge, as well as a 6 year warranty. Also said that no maintenance for 3 years, not even the impeller. Kicking around the idea but not sure if I want to pony up half of a new boat for a motor on a 2001 boat.

If your boat is in good condition and you planon keeping it no reason not to re-power, if you wont keep it long re-power is probably a bad idea.
Not sure what kind of engine your yamaha was, but the fuel system standards for an etec are pretty stringent, and with the quality of fuel these days its getting harder to take care of, personaly I would look into a 4-stroke, and if you are not going to keep it long term then look for a used motor or sell as is.

I have an 07 Etec 150 on a Ranger 188 and after a few minor adjustments early on it been a great motor. I run fuel stablizer all the time and it set from July to Mar without starting due to the drought and no water under my boat house and it started the first time I tried. Starts easy and runs great. Before this motor I had a '85 Evinrude for over 22 years and had no problems with it, just regular service.

Glad to hear that it has been a good motor, I had a 48 SPL for 8 yrs and never had a problem from it either. Just had to change the plugs and impeller each year.
I have found a pretty good deal in Livingston on a brand new 2011 150 HO, so may just repower and keep the boat.
What about the fuel standards that redchevy talked about? I forgot to ask the dealer about that when I talked to him.
