Worst snake problem in 5 years. These are little guys but my guys have killed a half dozen - largest up to three feet.

Not a copperhead on the second. They are very distinguishable with a very distinct hershey kiss shaped light brown.
It is possible the second is a rat snake but I'm no expert which is why I was seeking some other input. First one I have no idea.

I wish I could see the head of the 2nd one. I know you already shot it down, but that REALLY looks like the pattern of a Copperhead. Those snakes can look VERY different depending on where in the state you are.
The 1st one is harmless for sure, a rat snake. If the 2nd one isn't a copperhead, then no worries.
There are only 4 types of poisonous snake in Texas, most people don't realize that. Rattlers, Copperheads, Cottonmouths/Moccisins, and Coral snakes. Rattlers and coral snakes are easy to id. It's the other 2 that usually get people.

Second one is a rat snake (Texas rat snake). The first one may be a craw fish snake, harmless.

1. Definately (Texas Brown Snake)Non venemous, will strike but keeps mouth closed and wont bite skin. Commonly referred to as the city snake or landscaping snake. They love mulch, brushpiles, and rocks just like in the picture...
2. Possibly (Texas Rat Snake) or (Great Plains Rat Snake)You would have to see the head to get a better ID. Also nonvenemous and it will bite!!!!

Both of those are harmless, and do a lot of good if they are left alive.
