I've got a silly question about a ram mount... #7504447 05/08/12 04:09 PM

I just got a new to me graph to replace my tiny x-52 at the bow of my boat and it came with a ram mount. Which is the best way to mount the ram mount at the bow? I was thinking about mounting it where my current graph is which is directly on the carpet. If I were to go that route, how do I need to mount it with screws? Do I need to drill holes first or use some sort of self tapping screws? I would hate to do it the wrong way and have my ram mount completely fall off while riding in rough water.

Thanks in advance.

do you have a recessed trolling motor tray? if so you can pull it out and put regular bolts with lock washer and nuts. If not then just some TEK self-drilling screws will work.

I would forgo the ram mount all together. It's not necessary up front unless you just don't have the floor space.

I don't have a recessed tray but have been looking at getting one. I've thrown around the possibility of taking the ram completely off and just using the gimball mount but I like the way the ram mount gives you the possibility to mount the graph in front of the TM pedal.

True. I just don't like the possibility of something else letting go of my graph in rough water.

#8 stainless screws about 1 1/2" will do nicely, put some silicone in the holes after you drill them, 1/8" bit (hint the carpet will grab the bit so start the drill real slow till the hole is started)
