Get a Heavy action rod with a fast tip. At least 7 foot. I use 7'6. I like the Bucoo's.

I would get to flipping first so that you know what you want from a flipping rod when you buy one. At least get in a day or two of flipping all day. Feel, weight, balance, will become important. Some people prefer one piece, some dont mind two, etc. I personally have a weight in the butt of mine for balance. I also typically use a extra heavy flipping stick because of the need to get some big fish out of some nasty trees as fast as possible.
All of those things as well as length and action are more dependent on what you will use it for more than a general preference of a mass group of people.
I could build you one, but for $150 the components wouldnt be great. Same way with any company.
TTU is right. You can Flip with any setup. Go out and try it with familiar equipment. Here,I'll make it easy for you, and save you $150. Go to your rod rack and pick the most appropriate Rod and Reel, for Flippin',you already own. Now go get your Sharpie Pen and write "Flipping Rod" on the rod. That's your rig. Now go out and Flip with it.

I used to think that the rod didn't matter when it came to flipping, but I was wrong. I was in a tournament using a 6'6" MH rod flipping into lay downs and I had 3 bass that came off.(good keepers too) After the third one came off I was so mad that I pulled an IKE and broke the rod across the side of my boat.(not real bright on my part) After my cousin/partner finished laughing hysterically he told me that breaking that rod was probably the best thing I could have done because now I would have to buy a new rod. He told me that my 6'6" MH didn't have enough "backbone" for the heavy flipping I was putting it through. That evening I stopped by Tri-Lakes Tackle and bought a 7'4" H Temple Fork Outfitters rod for $99 and I haven't missed a fish on it yet.

We have some demo rods if you would like to try one. MHX or Lamiglass shoot me a pm if you are interested. But I'm like some of the other members don't let what one guy was doing different get in your head, stick with your own game but it is good to learn new techniques.

I kinda think it depends on what baits you're flipping. I like a 7' or 7'6" MH for jigs and flipping baits less than 1/2 ounce. It's all about learning the feel of it and familiarity, just like a couple of these guys said.

After reading everyones replies I realize that what I actually want is a rod for pitching.
Also, the reason that I'm asking about the rod isn't necessarily because I got beat. My wife has given me the ok to buy five new combos for an anniversary present (I know, she's awesome)! So, I thought I could get one and then learn how to fish it.
I know how to pitch, what I mean by "learn how to fish it" is I can learn when and where to pitch. Sorry for rambling and thanks for all the advice.

I know it should be heavy power, but what are your preferences on action and length? I got smoked in a tournament this past weekend by a guy flipping, I decided I need a flipping rod!
I'd be really happy if we could keep it $150ish, less than would be awesome.
Thanks in advance guys. A good all around rod size for flipping is a 7' to 7'6" Heavy Action. This rod can also be used for many other techniques such as topwater frogs, big swimbaits, and 3/4 to 1 oz football jigs. Make sure you get a rod that is light enough to fish with all day. Hope this helps.

O.K. Do not buy 5 combos at this time. You don't know what you like/need at this point. Just use one of your existing combos to learn likes/dislikes/needs at this early point in your experience. You can only fish 1 rig at a time, right? Buy fewer rigs but better quality rigs. So I'll save you an expensive search for a balanced, light weight, rig. Here's mine. G Loomis GLX MBR 783c (MH)(6.5ft),Daiwa Steez reel. Best if you Pitch with your dominant hand and crank with your off hand. That's up to you.

Well then you don't need another rod then , if you want one for "pitching" IMO.
I "pitch" with just about every rod I own , in some scenario or a other. It's "flipping" that really needs a specific rod.
I'll pitch my spinnerbaits while in tight cover, I'm not goin to buy a spinnerbait rod for pitching and one for casting
Same thing with worms, cranks in boat docks etc, you see the point??

A lot of get the the technique's confused. I can pitch with any with a soft tip. I flip with a broom stick 7.5 to 8 foot rod. My best Flipping rod is a 8' Gary Klein Quantum custom rod. I like the 7.5' Lamiglass XMG flipping stick. In heavy cover I will use a shorter rod
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

I would get a rod that went the my style of fishing. Some people well use a soft rod like falcon 7h BuCoo. Some people well use a rod like 7h Loomis which is like a broom stick. I like to use a soft rod around wood and around grass I like a broom stick. Some times the 7ft is easier to move around in the tree branch. I would use a 7ft to 8ft in mh or h. If you like soft rod I would use any Falcon, Lamiglas Excel and St. Croix 4, 5, or 6 Generation rod blank. Now for a broom stick i would use a 8' Gary Klein Quantum, Abu Garcia Veritas any their is much more rods. This is the rod list that I have used and like. If your not sure what your like then try both types of rods.
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!
