Whatever will bite, we mostly fish every year with live bait and catch our fair share. Just looking into moving into some artificial fishing.

Can't go wrong with a few gold and silver spoons. If ya catch a flat to 1 foot seas morning try a top water lure.

I've been to Galveston the last few years and have manly fished the sea wall off the short Jettys around the old flag ship when you get further down towards the beaches headed toward SLP like Jamaica what do you look for I'm so used to keying on structure when I fish that open beach is kind of strange to me do you just wade out a couple of guts and go for it or are there certain things you look for other then bait?

Also I've done well on 2-4' diving crank baits, rapla sub-walks and jerk baits but a gulp alive shrimp in new penny is a killer bait I give those to my wife under a cork and just let it float in the surf she's caught everything but smacks just letting it sit there and let waves do the work.

I use them all day on a 1/4 to 1/8 jog head if the bite slows under a cork I'll dredge bottom with them or hop them off bottom catch little reds trout and flounder that way.

Thats basically how we fish the open surf, we pull a lot of specs, a few spanish macs, and sharks. Occasionally water lays down and when it does we catch pompano also. Just looking into trying artificial baits this year.

First i would start off throwing topwaters at sunrise.I usually throw Mirrolure top dogs in bone, and sometimes purple and then i will try red back and yellow belly. You will usually catch trout and reds early in the morning. After the early bite i will stand on the second sandbar and throw straight out with a Paul Brown Devil in a Bone, purple chartreuse belly or black back pearl belly, or Brown lures Devil eyes or Flappin' devil in pearl/chartreuse and Pink Hologram. Then in the middle of the day i will get out the big rods and bait up with live or cut finger mullet and trow as far as i can to the 3rd sand bar.Hope this helps.
