If you are going to be out on the water all day, what is your preferred sun screen to use and how often do you have to reapply it?

I had a Derm. tell me that SPF 50 would be fine, use enough and make sure you hit your neck and ears.

Thanks Bagster, I'm familiar with the buffs and have a couple of them. I'm primarily looking for a good sunscreen for my ears and hands as I will be wearing a long sleeve shirt and long paints.. I will be out on the open water for 5 straight days.

I used Bullfrog 20 years ago and thought it was a pretty good produce, I was just woundering if any thing new has come out on the market since then that my be better.

Anything over 30spf will work. I sweat profusely in the mid-summer heat so I have to reapply hourly.

coppertone sport in 50 or 80 spf. Irish genetics and Texas sun are not a good combination. Extremely heavy sweating I reapply every 4 hours. Joe

I always use Banana Boat 30 spf. I apply before I get on the water so I either apply before I leave the house (or hotel) or do it on the way to the water as I prefer to let it soak in real good ahead of time, plus, I can thoroughly wash my hands before fishing. I can't stand trying to apply sunscreen once I start sweating as it seems like it doesn't soak in well. Normally speaking, if I apply early am I'm good for a full day, even if offshore fishing but will sometimes give a second application around midday. The only times I always reapply is if I'm getting wet, like swimming or wade fishing. Also, don't forget to get some lip balm in 30 spf or higher. Burnt lips hurts like the dickens, especially if you plan on eating spicy food later (which is almost always in my case).

Remember to use a dip net to get your bait out of the livewell, especially shrimp. The sunscreen on your hands will kill 'em.

That's true for sure. But, I'm too cheap to buy live shrimp, I use artificial bait almost exclusively. On occasion, I will use live mullet that I catch with my castnet but I normally don't like to mess with toting around bait buckets or trying to keep them alive. Can't remember the last time I actually bought live shrimp, maybe 20 yrs ago?
