I've decided to take the initiative and do a get-together for anyone wanting to tube and meet some like minded folks.

This will be at no cost, and not very organized. Just a bunch of us (hopefully) that would like to meet up, share some tips and ideas on tubing and catch a few fish.

This will be at the Cleburne State Park in Cleburne. I've chosen this spot because I catch fish every time I go there and because they'll got a good variety of bass, crappie, perch and some big cats. Also, the lake has a 5mph speed limit, so boat wakes are never a problem. I've never seen over 3 boats on this lake at any given time. It's 100 acres in size. So whether you're fly fishing or throwing a spinnerbait, this lake can produce some fish.

The lake has emergent vegetation all around it. I've done very well pitching to the edges of this grass. So that will give you an idea of what to bring. I've done well with flukes, Senko-type baits, spinnerbaits and T-rigs. They seem to like white, watermelon and Red-shad.

This will be on Sat. Oct. 5th. For information on Cleburne State Park, see this link: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/park/cleburne/ The gate opens at 7AM, so we'll meet then. A good place to meet is by the Park Store as there is plenty of space to launch and space for parking there. That is the day use area. The entrance fee is $3 to get into the park.

Please respond here so we'll get an idea of how many are going to show up. I'd like to meet a few of you guys, so let's make this a good time for all of us.

Kelly

Which day is it? You mentioned the 5th on this post but put the 6th under the Bank section of the forum.

Should be fine either day but just want to macke sure.

I thought I'd typed the 6th somewhere!..then double checked here and it said the 5th. It's Saturday, the 5th. I'll go edit the Bank Fishing thread.

Thanks,

Kelly

Can't do the 5th. Cleburne sounds like a nice lake to tube though.

I'll be at Lavon on the 6th near clear lake park with a couple of other tubers.

Jersey Striper,

I read another post of yours saying you'd only been tubing a few times and had only caught one fish....well, last weekend I killed em at this lake on Watermelon Swirl Tiki Sticks by Wave Worms. You can get them at Academy. They look like Senko's, but are alot less expensive. The price was $2.86, but I'm not sure if the count was 10 or 15. I caught several fish before a bait would tear up.

Anyway, get you some of these before next weekend and we'll get you on some fish!

I live in Cleburne and have fished the state park alot over the years. And while I have caught alot of bass out of C.S.P. have you ever fished Meredian State Park? I have found More quality fish here than in Cleburne. It is the same size as C.S.P. but a little further drive (near Whitney)

I'm glad you posted that about Meridian. I've yet to fish it, but I'm planning on going camping and fishing there the weekend near the full moon in October. I'll probably go the weekend of the 19th, as the full moon is on Tuesday.

I've looked the website over regarding that lake and park. I know the lake is smaller (75 acres), but it's good to hear it's got good sized fish in it.

The fish I'm catching at Cleburne aren't necessarily small. I'm catching fish between 2 and 4 lbs. there. Only an occasional dink.

Are you going to join us at Cleburne?

I coach my 14 yr old boys BCI basketball team and we have games that saturday. But I may have time to fish I will just have to leave early depends on the game time. I have'nt used my tube for a couple of years and and don't know what kind of shape it's in. But I may come out with my boat just to talk to everyone and see how they do. FYI: Meridian,s lake record for black bass is over 12lbs.

I may have wrote that wrong what I meant was I have only caught fish on one outing a caught about a dozen and a half at Ray Roberts the other day it was great.

Unfortunatly I don't think that I will make it next weekend. I think that I'm going to get sent to Alberquerque for a few days. If I am in town I will be there but it doesn't look good right now.

Since you put it that way...IN.
Did I get the feeling that you wanted to learn a little about fly fishing? I'm polishing my teaching techniques so if you're interested I can show you how to make a 2 pound bass feel like a four or 5 pounder. Do you have a fly rod?

Fly...

no fly rod, but I'd sure appreciate it if you'd let me try one for a few minutes. I've never tried it, but would appreciate a few pointers, maybe on dry ground after we fish.

I'll bring a spare, you'll be catchin' fish before you know it. Be warned, a good smooth cast is like hitting the "sweet spot" in Golf or tennis or baseball. It's addictive.
