confused

Ok, I caught this 7.14 on PK Lake in March. My husband says the spots are because of her getting ready to spawn. But I always want to know the facts. I tried researching it on line and couldn't find a def answer.....

A Little help please!!!! Thanks!

Someone will be along shortly that knows more than me and can give you an answer. In the meantime, congrats. That's a nice catch.

Some say it's a protein imbalance some say it's very nutrient rich water, some say its spawn spots, just a lot of different theories out there.

With all those spots, are sure that's not a redfish? HA! Nice fish.

It is actually a virus (similar to herpes in humans). It is not dangerous, if you are inclined to consume a fish with it. Spawning (or any other stressful activity) can cause the spots to appear; again, similar to a herpes virus can appear on humans when they get stressed. I got this information from one of the fisheries folks at TPWD.
