Hey all,

I am going to be making a trip this next week to Mustang Island State Park. I am going to do some beach fishing and kayak fishing in the Paddle Trials. What would you recommend I use for bail and lure wise while there? Thanks!

Also, if I didn't take kayaks, is it possible to wade fish part of the Paddle trails?

If your talking about the lighthouse trails, it is not possible to wade lighthouse kayak trails. A better spot other than lighthouse trails would be the shamrock cove area. It would be closer to you than lighthouse trails. Plus with the south wind shamrock would be a better bet. If you have any bone topwaters that would be best in the morning. After that a gold spoon is always a good fall back lure. Any paddle tail in a natural color would be good.

Lighthouse lakes is can't be waded because you need to cross a deep channel just to get there. I agree with Josh, Shamrock has much better options for the kayaker/wader. I think the launch points are more convenient as well. Just launch out of wilsons cut, and the mustang island trail does a big loop and you can take out at the same spot, right where you parked. The last time I was out at shamrock, I was using a bone spook jr, got a couple of reds, and a few trout.

Yep, East flats at Wilsons cut has viable options for wading in.

Bone spook is great just about anywhere any time.
