A buddy and I are going to hit Rhodes tonight. Anyone else is welcome to join us. You likely won't catch any giants, but the lake is full of good, quality 12-16 inch fish, fat and strong! It's very grassy, so plan baits accordingly. The drought has the lake very low, so you shouldn't even work up a sweat. If anyone wants to join us, we could meet up at Allsups in Decatur at 8:00 or so. Let me know!

I'd love to go, but, I shipped my tube off to get the bladder replaced. Have fun!

Go to FB's site: http://www.lsfta.com/ and click on Destinations, scroll down to the Rhodes Lake link and click on it. This has some information pertaining to the lake and how to get there.

If it changes, I will give you a shout.

It's east of Alvord, up NW of Decatur. It's a pain to find, if you've never been there before, primarily because the gate is barely marked. You'd be welcome to join us, BigLou--we're meeting BigLeslie at the Alvords on 287 in Decatur at around 8 o'clock. I'll check this thread once more at about 6:45.

Oops, Fishbrain I think you misstyped, we are meeting at the "Allsup's" (gas station)on 287 in Decatur not the "Alvords", just making sure no one got confused laugh

Also, I'll be fishing out of my bass buster, so if anyone wants to join me instead of float tubing the back seat in the buster is pretty comfortable.

Yes, it is an excellent lake for kayaks, very thick grass, I'd imagine yaks would float right over the top, probably be a bit easier than struggling with a clogged trolling motor prop like I did last night, but at least the fish were cooperative.

If it doesn't get some rain soon, you'll be able to wade the entire thing! Still as much as 16 feet deep, but the surface area is less than 50%. Fishing was slow but steady--4 fishermen, 36 fish (15 by the boater in the group!). Nothing over 3 pounds, but that is standard for Rhodes. Fun trip!

My wife and I had to go to our place in Montague County today and decided to take a look at Rhodes. We're taking 5 days off starting this Friday.

I found 3rd Street even without the street sign. That got me on CR2690. I never did find Gossett Foster Road. Where did I blow it?

I'd like to be able to explain it better, but it's a pain to find. If you come into town on Franklin Street, turn right at the flashing light. Cross the railroad tracks, then turn right on the first street (Pine St., I think). Turn left on Shankle, then right on Beyette (cr2590). At the fork in the road, turn left onto cr 2690. This will wind around for a couple of miles. The best way to find the lake is to look for a few landmarks. At the top of a hill, you'll see some rusty tanks (gas tanks, maybe?) on your right, right up next to the road. Shortly after this, you'll see a red brick home with a green roof up on a hill to the right. Now you're close--the road will dip down into a low area, and you'll cross a small bridge. Just after this, the road bends to the right, and the gate will sneak up on you on your right. They lease the land for cattle grazing, so their is an improvised barbed wire gate with a "Please Close Gate" sign. That is your destination. I realize that is kind of convoluted, but it's the best I can do. You cannot see the lake from the county road, as the dam backs up to the road, and the gate is not very clearly marked. Hope this helps, somehow!

Thanks Fishbrain, I'll give it another try. I kinda like the idea of a hard to find place.
