Is the prop sliding on the shaft or is the whole shaft moving?

No not normal sounds like the washer behind the prop is missing. Cary

are any of the splines showing on the propshaft before you put the nut on? I have to have a spacer on my 175/24 raker that is splined to the shaft for a spacer.

check to make sure the prop shaft is moving with the prop. if it is then you have just a lil excessive end play. if the prop is moving on the prop shaft then you have some mounting hardware issues that need to be addressed.

the prop is sliding along the shaft about 1/4" to 5/16"
the previous owner advised it had been like that.
someone suggested a thrust washer might have been left out during reassembly....
thanks, wistex

thanks, wistex Interested in the answer. I bought my boat brand new and it has always had the prop slip also, I assumed it was supposed to be this way. Guess it can't be too bad since its 12 years old now?

the thrust washer should keep the prop out so that the nut tightens down against the prop hub. if you see splines behind the washer either the thrust washer is wrong or you need a splined spacer like mine uses. will get a pic of it tomorrow and post here.

There is a prop nut spacer 0323943 and a thrust washer 0335420 and you will have a little movement because of propshaft endplay ....OPTI
