I'm looking to buy a open front tube but can't decide between the togiac or the kennebec. The kennebec seems nicer but I'm wondering how much nicer ($40 more). Anyhow, if you can shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Wes

I like the Togiak better. I prefer the v-design, and I like the mesh "basket" behind the seat. I have owned a Kennebec, as well, and I had a problem with the support brace ripping out the pockets it goes in due to too much stress on the front end. In all fairness, I know several other folks who have the Kennebec and love it, but that was my experience.

BTW, I'd spend about the same $$$ and get a Fish Cat 4 by Outcast. It's a bit more compact, but it rides very high and is built better. It also has a better warranty (5 years). Cabelas carries Outcast.

Randy,

Gander Mountain has the Togiak for 89.99 which seems to be a really good price. Is the Fish Cat worth $50 more in your opinion? Thanks for your help.

Ooo, that's a good question! That is an EXCELLENT price. I'd say it depends upon how much you're giong to use it. The Fish Cat is definitely tougher, but, if you're not planning on fishing 30-40 days a year, like I do, the Togiak would probably suit you just fine. I would have a hard time passing up that price!

kennebec?

I have one
The storage is fantastic.
For fly fishing the number of snags on that float are a horror.

Recruited a log canvas bag from a camp chair.
Holds several 3 and 4 piece rods neatly across the back.
Those long straight poontoons hold two piece rods really swell too.

Sits kinda deep, cooler in the summer,
You're wearing waders in the winter.

The three seperate air chambers increase the safety of you swimming back on something floating... I have NEVER swam back though, and I float often.

Apprearantly I am not as mush of a wilde rider as Fish-Brain. Mine floatie is still intact. I imagine all those ten punders do take their toll, huh Mr LSTFA.

The Togiak is a great deal at 89.00 grab it.

I've got that one and an old round one. I actually use the round one more than the Togiak. I usually let my buddy use it if I take someone with me. Having two means nobody can give me the excuse that they don't have one. I don't bass fish, all I really fish for is Crappie. So I never get to fish with most of these guys. I fish alone alot.

I put my depthfinder on my round tube because it is never deflated. The bladders for the Togiak lose air and I'm too lazy to keep pumping it up before I fish. When I decide to go I like to just .. go. I love fishing in the winter. Lot's of bigguns.
