Well, I always let you guys know how well I do, good or bad. This time I got skunked. I went to Fork and hit the lily pads back in a creek channel where I caught a few biggies in February. As always, some sort of folly goes with my trip. This time was my first ever night trip with the tube. I have to say that is pretty scary for me to be out on the water at night in a tube. I just knew that some cottonmouth was going to come right into my pants looking for something to eat. I was way back where no boat could possibly nail me, but I was using a glow stick around the neck just to be sure and to meet regs. The glow stick even puts off enough light to retie when needed. Anyway, the glow stick fell out of its housing and landed on the casting apron. I figured, "no big deal" since I was so far back in the pads. Note to everyone who uses glow sticks, don't put them on the casting apron at night. Some huge monster came up from below to inspect the glowstick and rubbed up both my thighs on the way up. Holy *&^# was I scared. If anyone is up for a trip on Friday or Saturday in the Metroplex, I would love to join you and would trade snacks for expertise.

Holy cow, that is a story! I love tubing at night, but only in waters where I have not heard regular reports of gators. You sir, have some serious cajones to float the nether regions of Fork after dark, that lake has plenty of 'em. Snakes don't really scare me, and I know gator attacks in Texas are very, very rare...but that seems like pushing your luck!
Oh well, more power to you, to answer your questions about night fishing, I mainly fish soft plastics. Usually black and blue swirl Tiki sticks, and 10 inch redshad worms are my favorites. You have to keep your indexl finger on the line at all times to feel bites and then sometimes it is still hard. A black and blue gogetter or strike king spinner bait is my second favorite choice. Good luck!

Seems like a glow stick would hinder you night vision, just like using a gas lantern over a flashlight does. It shines in all directions, including back at you. Most of us use the lights that fit on your head. You can get a decent set for $15-20, and they run off AA batteries. Fork, in a tube...at night..back where the boats can't get to....NOT ME! NO WAY!! And yes, the pucker factor is multiplied 45% at night when you're by yourself. Take a friend, and it's only about 10%. KD

The channel I am speaking of is sort of in the lake rather than in a ditch. (On the SW side of the lake it is out in the huge patch of lilies on the west side of the road) This time of year it is well defined by the lack of lily pads in a swath of water about 15 feet across. There is no way I would go back into a wood covered ditch at night on that lake.

boy, do you have some guts to go out alone at night on fork. the night fishing is easy if you have the right stuff: - 1st get a headlamp w/ both black and led light bulbs - 2nd use fluorescent line, the black light make the line glow like a christmas tree. this allows you to see and have a better feel on the rod. this is the best way to night fish, if you have any question let me or fishbrain know, he helped me get the night fishing down. also, fishbrain's website has some 411 on night tubing.
