strong rod...braided line...gotta be able to wait that second before you set the hook....hard to do sometimes.

Broomstick with a medium-fast tip and xheavy taper. Daiwa Steez or other super highspeed reel. 65-80lb. braid. Replace the hooks with the heaviest you can find w/o impacting the action of your bait and sharpen the heck out of them. Be willing to change hooks and retie constantly, if they're biting. After you pause and rip that hookset, DO NOT relax, ever! Never drop your rod tip or stop reeling until that fish is coming your way and under your control. Whether that be on top of the mat or wadded up in a bunch of it.

7'mh parabolic rod with high speed reel and 50-65lb braid. The softer rod keep you from pulling the frog away as fast, as well as makes it easier to keep constant pressure on the fish without ripping a big hole in the fish mouth.

Or as my darling wife would say "you need to let him swim with it" Hmm. and I wonder who taught her that. Somwtimes easier said then done. I try not to watch, just listen and wait for tension.

It's a lot easier to wait on the hookset if you're not suprised by the bite. Pay attention and get it through your head that you're going to get an explosion. That way you won't endup yanking it out of its mouth.

This is the best advice you can give anyone when they first start out frog fishing. Most people get spooked by the blowup and yank immediately. You gotta reel down or wait till you feel them turn with it (usually a 2 count as others have mentioned).

Also, I know most people prefer heavy rods, but I like throwing them on a (stiff) M or a MH. I've pulled less frogs out early because of the forgiveness of the rod and as an added bonus you have WAY more accuracy than trying to launch it around on a broomstick.

At the end of the day, whatever you feel more comfortable with is what works the best.

I think in my head set _ the _ Hook and stick them on hook if that makes since. Not setting it instantly can be a tough habit to break

I am always looking for the next place to cast and thinking where a bass will be, keeps me from watching, you see it before you hear it. by the time you locate it, it is time to set the hook
