Hello everyone,

I live in Austin and would love to get out into the water. I own a float tube, but tubes are not allowed on most of the rivers/lakes around here. Does anybody know where I can legally use my float tube? I am thinking of getting a kayak, but may delay that if I can find a place to use my float tube.

Thanks!

Why are float tubes illegal? Have you actually seen something in writing stating so, or are you going from hearsay?

I know of several board members here and other sites that have fished Town Lake from tubes, bassbusters and kick boats. Some catching fish up to 10 lbs, but that's another story! laugh laugh

Here is what TP&W has to say about Town Lake. Heck, they even give access points for "canoes and car top boats".

I am unable to find the page referencing the regulation, but there is no wading or swimming allowed on town lake to include the use of float tubes. Also, I once used a float tube on town lake and when I told one of the folks at sportsman's finest (fishing department) he said I was lucky I wasn't caught because it's illegal.

I've got a call into the Lake Patrol division of the park police. Will update when I've heard back from them.

Cheers!
