Since DI is a computer generated image of the two SI beams, maybe your paddle was creating the echoes that made the "disturbance". OR you were making turns that were skewing the image. The SI beams "see" from past vertical under the transducer to the water surface.

Naw It's not from the paddle and I wasn't turning. I think it's something with the transducer because it's never done this and all of the sudden the last 2 trips it started. No settings have changed and nothing has changed in the kayak. I guess I will just send it in.

Have you checked the voltage readout to see if you have proper voltage? Computers do strange things without the correct power.

I didn't check, but I charge my battery every trip out. I assumed that since I have the alarm set to tell me when it drops below 10, and in addition, it did this at the start of a 12hr fishing trip that it wasn't the battery or it would have went dead.
After someone else posted about the DI being produced from the SI scan, I thought I would go check to make sure I didn't have my SI set too shallow, thinking it might cause it. It was still set to 60ft so it wasn't that either. Unit has the latest software and the depth setting is set to Auto.

I have a Humminbird 597 ci hd di. I recently purchased Navionics premium south sd card and immediately plugged it into my computer for the updates Navionics had. This is the first card I have ever used on my fish finder. I put card in FF and it says loading charts but doesn't do anything. I can use sonar and DI just fine but the body of water I'm on doesn't show up anymore. It marks my gps route that I have been on but it shows up like I'm on land. Please help as I am new to both FF and Navionics.

I just had this problem. Sent it in and they sent a new power cable back with it. Works fine now.

"the body of water I'm on doesn't show up anymore"
How do you know it did show up before if you didn't use the card before you did the update? Is the body of water listed on the Navionics web site? Is the outline of the the body of water included with the Uni-map background, but not on the Navionics chip?

Let me clarify. I thought it showed water on the uni map but my buddy confirmed it didn't. Gps is working fine. I bought the FF 6 months ago and have never installed any type of SD card. I recently purchased a brand new out of the box Navionics Premium South card. I pulled it out of the box and directly onto my computer because Navionics had new updates for lakes. The download from computer to card was successful. I then put the Navionics card in my 597 FF and it says loading charts but nothing shows up. I have left it loading for half a day while we fished and it still shows up as loading charts. A Humminbird rep told me to check the diagnostics screen to see if the FF was reading the card? It reads the card but no maps. I have already had to send in the transducer because it was faulty! Idk if I have a bad head unit or I installed the card wrong but it's not working. Reccomendations before I send it in a 2nd time?

You may have done the Navionics update when they were having a server issue and ones that did updates during that period got incomplete data. Do the update again and that may take care of it.
Also did you check the Navionics website to see if the body of water you want is included?

It is a brand new card. I figured it would load right up.

It probably would have loaded right up like a brand new card IF you hadn't changed it with the update attempt.

Ok, call me lazy but did not want to scroll thru 41 pages to see if my question was asked already (which I think it was). I have a HB 898 SI on the console, it has the housing that holds all the wires together to plug them into the unit, when I go across the lake and take any form of waves (even little ones)the unit shuts off, I dont have to touch the wiring but just hold the power button to turn it back on. what could be causing it to shut off? poor connections on the back maybe? I read something about pins and modifying them but did not want to do that if not needed, do I need to go away from that housing? Thanks.

IF the connectors are solid against the cable collector that should hold them in. I would also look at the power supply. DId you solder connections? That's better than crimped on connectors. IF you used a glass bulb fuse those are prone to losing connection I recommend Blade type fuses.
