I would like to get some opinions. Do you think it makes a difference if the jig head is painted or unpainted? Thanks in advance for your opinions!!

Sometimes it does..... It seems most times not.....painted catch lots of "fishermen" though.....Think it depends on what you like and what you have confidence in...
Good fishin'

I honestly don't think it does make a difference. But I also feel that it won't hurt either. I think presentation and other factors play a bigger part than the jig head being painted or not.

Depends on the day. Sometimes I think it does make a difference as I've experimented with it. My go to jig is a chartreuse painted jig w/ blk/chart body.

Shoot, I don't even think colors matter most of the time. Personally, when fishing plastics, I go unpainted heads. When I fish feather jigs, they are usually painted. Of course I do fish feather jigs 75 percent of the time.

I know one guide that uses nothing but unpainted. I don't think it matters much either way but, the rest of the jig color certainly seems to to me. I've caught fish with different color heads during the same trip but, the body color did make a difference.

IMHO, fisherman shouldn't think that painted jig heads catch their attention more, and in-turn, painted jig heads are there to lure fishermen and not the fish. That perspective is often perceived. I'm not here to point out the wrongs or rights of each opinion. Each person's opinion should be respected as part of our decision making individually...
So is unpainted jig head a color on its own? It's grey-ish or sometime shiny silver... Right? Would it be fair to say that some time crappies love that grey color, and other time, not so much? Would all this fall into the belief that presentation is 100% and color doesn't matter? If you are one of those "color doesn't matter" guy and catches as many fish or more than the guys who have a good selection of colors and know when to use them, then more power to you! It is kinda cool if a tackle box of someone truly only has ONE color or ONE color combo... From time to time, we'd see some folks swear that they only use with Black/Chart or White/Chart and nothing else... Hmmm, so does colors really matter to that angler? If not, then why not just one of those two rather than both?
Basically.... Unpainted is a color!!!!! Think about it. If grey is among your go to color head, then more power to you, but maybe...just maybe, other colors should deserve some catching moments as well

Except for hand tied jigs, I've fished plain, unpainted jigs with plastics since I switched from minners and done pretty good. I'm putting together a fluid bed when I get home just for a hobby so I may be fishing some purdy jig heads soon. Like other's, I don't think it makes that much difference but I guess if you're fishing a Meller Yeller Slab Bandit, and you feel it's that solid color that is key, then having a chartreuse-yellow head instead of a lead-grey head might make a difference. Anyway, Powder coating is interesting and who knows, I might even get me some string & feathers and tie me some. HA!

Yea, I said I don't think it matters much but I powder coat probably more than half of mine just because it is fun! Depends on how big a hurry I'm in. As long as I'm gettin'em wet I'm happy and if I catch a few that's even better!

If you don't mind me asking, are you making your own or did you buy something? How much you got in it?
