When I was a kid, I backlashed so many times I learned to always get them out. There isn't a backlash in existence I can't get out. It's a thing learned over time... I can't even explain it to another person well enough to help them out so I will just do it for them usually.

Another tip I found online is to pull the line until it stops, then thumb the rats nest (spool) as tightly as you can but still turn the reel handle. After cranking a couple of turns, then pull the main line again till it stops. Keep repeating until the backlash pulls out. Works most of the time, some quicker than others. I've tried this as well, it really works. If all else fails, put the rod down an pick up another one. +1

Dont forget to adjust your reel to each bait. some reels have brake adjustment also. that will help depending on the weight of you lures. as far controlling the reel with your thumb. i wait when the lure is about to hit the water and slow it down with my thumb. you can look these things up on youtube.

OK so I saw your backlash and had a good giggle then... I go fishing last night with my new reel with new line. I casted and had things rolling when I went to cast and caught a chunk of grass on the back swing and BOOM!! Epic backlash beyond all repair. Super fail....
Cops are just jealous. If I'm not on the truck, then I'm in the boat.

hahaha....you have more patience than me. You can certainly get some terrible backlashes throwing cranks in the wind....same with a spinnerbait that helicopters on ya.
