How should i set the hook when using a little woolly bugger for bass and perch?

I feel like if you don't occasionally launch a smallish gill over your right shoulder, you aren't doing it right.



The right answer may be stripset but what do i know.

That is how I do it when Bass fishing but when perch fishing I just raise the rod.

All of the above. And keeping a hook hone handy to maintain sharp as *(^$$@#*~ hook points helps as well.

A combination of all the above.
A stripset helps get rid of slack in the line and sets the hook. Then you have to lift the rod tip to maintain pressure on the fish to keep your barbless hook from being shaken out.
The too enthusiastic application of this last step is what contributes to the "Projectile Perch" phenomenon. It does, however give the little feller one hell of a story to tell his compadres when you throw him back.

BTW, if you lift the rod tip in the same manner you would for a back cast, you can continue the cast if you miss your hookset and get right back in there.
