Are there any brands to avoid? I think the brand I am looking at is Ce Smith at academy. Any special grease to buy? I have some citco grease from academy that says marine application.

Go to a parts store like NAPA and get Temkin (not spell right I'm sure) bearings, much better than the china stuff you will get at Academy. If you have a Motion Industries close there the cheapest for good bearings.

CE Smith is a marine standard and the grease you have is marine rated so yes it will all work just fine. Be sure to hand pack the bearings before you install them, nytril surgical gloves will help keep it off your hands. There are some good videos for hand packing bearings on Youtube. Torque the axle nut down tight to seat your bearings to the hub. Then back off and run it back down until the cotter pin hole just lines up, over torqued axle nuts will over heat the hub.
If you use Buddy bearings or any other grease injection fill system, only pump grease in until the indicator is flush, wait between pumps for expansion. Do not over fill or you will ruin the hub flange seal and let water in. Also do not add any grease in the future unless the indicator moves inward, or you will push grease out the back side seal and water can get into the hub.

The trailer already has buddies on It. How do know what size axle it is? It is for sure under 3500lb single axle.

I pull the wheels, then pull the hub and get the bearings and races out then go to wherever it is that you are goin to get your parts from, they can pull the numbers off the parts and look them up. I have always gone to magnum trailer or somewhere similar to get parts.
Like said above, pre pack the bearings, I too prefer to do it by hand like dad taught me, dont over tighten and dont overfill.
good luck and have some good grease cutting soap ready.

if you are close to tyler then i would tzke it over to Coker enterprises on hwy 271. They will do it while you wait for about $35.00 per wheel and you dont have to get your hands dirty.

They repack your bearings for $35, or they put new bearings races and grease for $35? That sounds like a repack to me.

The trailer already has buddies on It. How do know what size axle it is? It is for sure under 3500lb single axle. If the axle spindle is straight (same diameter end to end) then you have two 1" bearings. If the axle spindle/ hub is larger at the inner race then you have one 1" and one 1 1/16" bearing per side. The part number is stamped into the face of the bearing cover/ flat part.
