What type do you use in 18-20ft of water? The wind has been crazy but I don't feel comfortable using heavy weight. Also, the water is extremely clear, what type jigs would work best, size and color.

I caught a few early but they would not hit my jig later on. I know they were there. bang I used an egg sinker with a small split and a grey w/ silver/black spots Mr Crappie grubb with a red jig head.

When the wind is like this, and the depth you are fishing...I'd be fishing a 1/8 oz jig head with whatever jig you prefer. Some people fish 1/4 oz jig heads as well. Tough to fish this wind, at that depth, with anything lighter than 1/16.

I don't fish egg sinker style jig rigs, but there are those that do.

What I've been using lately is a drop shot rig. I find I can use as much or as little weight as I need to keep the line vertical, while still presenting the jig properly in a horizontial position.

Easy, it's called "the crappie1 rig." Add 1/2 oz egg weight held up 6" above your jig by split-shot. I use it year round regardless of wind conditions.

No...I have never fished with additional weight on my jig poles. If I need more weight...I just go up to a 1/4 oz...but it is very rare for me to fish a jig heavier than 1/8 oz.

I caught 8 off my condo this mornng in 20' of water using 1/8 oz Jig'um jig in pretty stiff wind. No extra weight at all. Using new Uncle Buck 10' pole I won from Duck Jerky's seminar last Oct. Man I love that rod!
Guess it just depends on what they like on a given day.

Don't be afraid to use that 3/16 or 1/4 oz jig or the drop shot rig with 1/4 to 5/16 weight in the clear water. Use Trilene clear if you're afraid they'll see the line. For colors, I'd use shad colors, white, light gray, blue/white, opaque chartreuse for the clear water. Look at the bottom two colors on this page of crazyangler's slab bandits http://stores.crazyanglertackle.com/-str.../Categories.bok
Also look at the baby crappie and the warmouth slab bandits. All are good clear water colors.

The baby shad and black shad looks bad azz. Gotta get me some. I'm hoping the wind will lie down and the fish will be waiting for me in the morn. Thanks everyone for your replys.
