We targeted channel catfish last week at Ivie and lake Nasworthy. We fished shallow (1-5ft) windblown banks, points, rip rap, islands, grass, reeds, and stick ups. We fished creek channels and ledges and at the backs of creeks. We fished in brush in 10-20 foot of water. We fished long muddy flats. Heck, we even fished in depths of 30-60foot.

We used santeed cooper rigs, slip cork rigs, three way rigs, and carolina rigs. You name it we tried it.

We used soured wheat and milo to chum our spots before we fished them. We used, cut shad, live shad, shrimp, worms, Secret 7 cheese bait, danny kings, CJ's and sure shot punch bait. We used minnows, live and cut perch, we even used grasshopppers. We managed to catch 3 catfish over 4 days. We fished morning noon and night. I can catch crappie, whites, hybrids, blacks and stripers with relative ease, but I can't catch catfish. What gives?

Try wearing camo next time. Seriously though, welcome to the club! Sometimes they just don't wanna bite. Happens to all of us. It can be frustrating, but that's part of what cat fishing so interesting. They are unpredictable. Just keep hunting and you'll find them. Makes it more rewarding to catch a mess after 2-3 skunkfests.

It happens sometimes...keep doing what you're doing and you'll eventually catch a lot of fish

Save up and hire a guide for a day on your home lake. Learning curve goes way up quick! Best money you will spend fishin! IMO

Lipan Creep, you fishing from the bank or in a boat? I can drop anchor and fish one spot on Ray Hubbard and catch more than 1 limit. When fishing from the bank its a different story. If you use too much chum, they won't be as eager to bite your hook, IMO.

Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy fishing thinking about God!

We are fishing from a boat. I have a small plastic bat with the top cut off that I use to sling the chum out. I load it up with two solo cups full of chum and sling it out. I do this twice in the spot we are fishing. I wouldn't think this would be too much.

You also have to remember that it is spawning season for catfish. Catfish often get lockjaw when their spawning.

Sometimes they just won't bite, for me I have had the best luck with channel cats by using shrimp.

Can't say anything about Ivie but, Nasworthy aka Nastywater is half of your problem. Try Buttes on the southside and use your chum sparingly.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I never fish for cats on the bottom usually about 2 ft off of it and I pretty much only use fresh cut shad that I caught that day. I only use the part with the head not the tail if threadfin. On the bull shad I fillet them and use strips with some of the guts on em.
