I have a couple beautiful Dobyns Rods but the cork is getting dirty quick. I tried cleaning one of my BPS rods and it left it darker and ugly looking. What is the best way to clean these cork handles and keep them looking new without darkening the color or making them have a different texture with dark spots? Thanks!

Doesn't matter if they're Dobyns or a $10 knock-off. If it has cork grips, warm water, mild, diluted dish soap and a scrub brush. Try 0000 steel wool first. Then wash.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Why bother? I've got more important things to do than worry about cleaning the cork on a rod handle.

Thanks for weighing in guys. I tried the warm water/soap deal a few months ago and that is what left mine all fouled up. Much darker looking and sort of 'pitted' if you will, like darker black spots than what was there before.
Now I know it's sort of corny to be overly worrysome about the 'look' of my rod grips, but in actuality having a clean grip has some performance enhancements too- but yes, I do like to keep it clean too haha.
So with the alcohol and rag, just regular isopropyl rubbing alcohol or whatever it is called? Or is there a certain % I should get? Lastly, with the alcohol, will it leave any darker spots or pitting? Thanks!

OK Just said to heck with it and gave it a run with the Rubbing Alcohol and a Cloth. It appears to have worked brilliantly and only leaving the grip a TINY BIT darker. But this is looking 15 minutes later- so I'm sure after a few hours it may dry up back to normal color. Now I too can +1 your tip.
+1 Rubbing Alcohol and Rag!

I use Rod Wrap on all of my rods. Protects the cork and gives me a more secure grip. When they get dirty, replace the Rod Wrap. Just MHO
